We are currently looking for Mechanical Engineers to join our team. This role involves 24/7 operations with day and night shifts, working 12 hours at a time. In a two-week period, you will work 7 shifts and have every other weekend off.
The primary responsibility of the Mechanical Engineer is to ensure the smooth operation of terminal activities by maintaining the accessibility and reliability of cranes and mobile equipment. You will be assigned to an asset group to perform planned maintenance, repairs, and project-related tasks, as well as assist during the delivery, inspection, and commissioning of new equipment.
This role offers the opportunity to work with machinery such as quay cranes, terminal tractors, shuttles, and more. No two days are the same, ranging from critical repairs to general gear box maintenance.
About The Role
How will you contribute:
* Carry out preventive maintenance and repairs according to safety standards to minimize equipment downtime, including electrical duties if applicable.
* Collect data during work activities and report to Engineering Planners.
* Manage and supervise contractors during equipment delivery and commissioning, ensuring safety practices are followed.
* Support the development and updating of method statements and risk assessments for maintenance and repairs.
* Lead by example to promote safe working practices.
* Coordinate with stores and Asset Managers to maintain inventory and stock levels.
* Innovate and improve processes to optimize productivity and equipment performance.
* Perform tasks safely and effectively, maintaining high standards of equipment availability, dependability, and safety in line with company objectives.
What Will You Bring
Qualifications, Skills & Experience:
* Minimum Level 3 Qualification (NVQ, City & Guilds, etc.) according to the National Qualifications Framework.
* Strong knowledge of equipment maintenance, including gearboxes, engines, hydraulics, and lifting equipment.
* Basic understanding of electrical engineering.
* Experience with equipment maintenance and engineering best practices.
* Knowledge of HSE regulations related to maintenance activities.
Additional Requirements:
* Eligibility to work in the UK.
* Full valid UK or international driving license.
* No unspent criminal convictions.
* Due to safety weight limits, candidates must weigh under 130kg.
