Our Environmental Planning team seeks a Regional Leader for the South West and Wales Planning and Environmental Assessment and Management Team, covering Bristol, Cardiff, Exeter, and Truro. Candidates should be Associate Technical Directors or higher, with broad Planning and/or EIA/SEA experience, and be Chartered Town Planners or Environmentalists.
This role involves strategic oversight and coordination within the region, working closely with other Regional Leads across the UK. The candidate should be confident, collaborative, and capable of working with technical specialists on various projects, including planning applications, EIAs, and related deliverables. Responsibilities include client engagement, business development, mentoring, and leading multidisciplinary project teams.
The projects span energy, infrastructure, rail, highways, water, defense, mixed-use developments, public realm, and masterplanning. We promote technical excellence, digital innovation, and a collaborative environment. The Regional Leader will ensure successful project delivery across the UK and globally.
* Lead the regional team in recruitment, growth, bidding, project delivery, and client management.
* Coordinate and deliver planning/environmental work within multidisciplinary teams, influencing project development and outcomes.
* Support business development through market activities and client engagement.
* Enhance regional service awareness, secure new opportunities, and foster contacts.
* Manage key client relationships, facilitate cross-selling, and gather client feedback.
* Provide planning/environmental advice to clients, project managers, and colleagues.
* Engage with stakeholders and manage project performance regarding technical quality, safety, and commercial aspects.
Qualifications & Experience:
* Strong knowledge of UK Planning system, consenting processes, EIA practices, case law, and environmental principles.
* Experience across various project types.
* Excellent report writing, communication, and presentation skills; capable of reviewing others' work.
* Leadership in multidisciplinary project coordination, with project management skills.
* Experience negotiating with authorities and stakeholders.
* Commercial acumen, including forecasting and quality assurance.
* Relevant degree, preferably with chartered status or working towards it.
* Flexible, pragmatic, and collaborative work approach.
* Experience with DCO/TWAO/SEA/IIA projects is advantageous.
* Desired: Full Member of IEMA/IES/CEnv/RTPI.
