The Histopathology Department is seeking applications for two enthusiastic and capable individuals to join our team as HCPC registered band 5 or Specialist band 6 Biomedical scientists (depending on the qualifications & experience). Based at Doncaster Royal Infirmary, the post holder will rotate through all sections of the Histopathology laboratory to include dissection, microtomy, special stains, non gynae cytology and immunohistochemstry. The South Yorkshire and Bassetlaw (SYB) Pathology Partnership fully integrates the pathology services delivered on behalf of the Partner Trusts within the Integrated Care System (ICS) footprint; Barnsley Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, Doncaster and Bassetlaw Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, Sheffield Children’s NHS Foundation Trust, Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and The Rotherham NHS Foundation Trust. The Pathology Partnership will provide the best possible service for patients and clinicians; improving health outcomes, delivering quality and efficiency benefits and ensuring a sustainable workforce for the longer term. The post holder will be required to perform a range of routine and complex histopathology laboratory investigations commensurate with the grade and should have experience in routine histological techniques, immunohistochemistry, dissection & special stains. As a Specialist Biomedical Scientist, you will be experienced and operating as a Biomedical Scientist within a Histopathology laboratory, in line with ISO 15189 standards. BMS staff are rotated within the department to cover the laboratory sub sections accordingly. An extensive range of automated, semi-automated and manual techniques are utilised to ensure appropriate testing of diagnostic samples. A high level of accuracy and attention to detail are essential skills for the post. Please also note this vacancy is banded dependent upon applicants experience relevant to this post. The banding of the successful applicant/s will start at Band 5 unless applicants meet the necessary threshold of skills and experience required to start on Band 6.
