This new provision, opening in 2025, is seeking a passionate and dedicated SENDCo to join our growing team. We provide a nurturing and supportive environment for young people aged 11-16, offering a tailored National Curriculum delivered in small classes with a focus on meeting their sensory needs and supporting their emotional well-being.
As our SENDCo, you will:
1. Shape a thriving school culture: Work with the Head of School to create an inclusive and supportive environment for students and staff.
2. Lead the SEND Department: Oversee all aspects of SEND provision, ensuring a high-quality and tailored curriculum for all students.
3. Develop and implement SEND policies and procedures: Ensure the school adheres to all relevant legislation and best practice guidelines.
4. Champion student voice: Lead Y9 transition reviews, ensuring student voice is captured and that outcomes align with Pathways for Adulthood.
5. Ensure access for all: Identify and enable access arrangements for exams and other accreditation.
6. Guide career pathways: Oversee high-quality Careers Education, Information, Advice and Guidance, working with the wider school team to deliver a Careers Framework that supports KS3-4 pupils on their pathway to adulthood.
7. Support individualized needs: Ensure that the school carries out its statutory responsibilities in accordance with each pupil EHCP and their defined SEND assessment.
8. Collaborate with external agencies and professionals: Build strong relationships with local organizations to ensure seamless transitions and support for students.
9. Provide expert advice and support: Act as a key resource for teachers, parents, and students on all aspects of SEND.
10. Be a champion for inclusive practices: Ensure an integrated approach to the school's SEN provision, incorporating the deployment of staff, including therapists, resources, strategies, and the types of support and intervention needed.
11. Exercise a key role in advising and assisting the Head of School with the strategic development of SEN policy and provision, including reviewing, and formulating policies.
12. Lead and manage the school's therapy offer.
13. Prepare information and carry out annual statutory reviews or specific case conferences.
14. Keep abreast of developments in SEN (e.g., research, changes to the law) and inform SLT and Head where appropriate.
15. Be open to leading in a curriculum area across all Surrey Schools.
We are looking for candidates who:
1. Have a proven track record as a successful SENDCo.
2. Possess a strong understanding of the SEND Code of Practice and relevant legislation.
3. Are passionate about creating an inclusive and supportive learning environment for all students.
4. Have excellent communication and interpersonal skills and can build strong working relationships with staff, parents, and external agencies.
5. Are highly motivated and dedicated to making a real difference in the lives of young people.
Essential Requirements:
1. Relevant teaching qualification (PGCE, QTS, etc.).
2. Significant experience working as a SENDCo in a secondary school setting.
3. Strong understanding of the National Curriculum and effective pedagogy for SEND students.
Desirable Requirements:
1. Experience working with a multi-disciplinary clinical team.
2. Experience with developing and implementing research projects.
