Records Assistant – Relief Team (Zero-hours contract)
Hourly rate: £12.24 per hour plus holiday pay
Location: Peterborough
Contract: Zero-hours contract (project work)
Hours: Project will require 37.5 hours per week, Monday – Friday, 9am until 5:30pm with 1 hour unpaid lunch break
Work model: Mixture of onsite and remote working as outlined below
Training: Possible requirement for training in London, for which travel will be expensed.

Purpose of role
We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-orientated individual to join our team as a Records Assistant within our relief team here at Williams Lea.
The successful candidate will be part of an ongoing file destruction project, working both at the supplier's premises and remotely from home. This role will involve processing files for destruction, managing data entry tasks, and ensuring compliance with internal records procedures. The ideal candidate will have a keen eye for detail, a willingness to learn new technologies, and the ability to adapt to changing work priorities in a virtual environment.
The project is expected to last up to six months initially, with potential for extension; however, as this is a zero-hours contract, the duration could be subject to change and cannot be guaranteed.
Key responsibilities
1. Participate in Records File Destruction Project: Collaborate with the project team to manage the destruction of files in accordance with established timelines, both on-site at the supplier's premises and remotely from home.
2. Process Files for Destruction: Prepare files for destruction by ensuring that they meet the criteria specified within the project scope. This includes creating new files and revising existing ones as needed.
3. Adapt to New Technologies: Learn and use new technologies, software, and systems to enhance productivity and adapt to changing priorities in a remote work environment.
4. Follow Internal Records Procedures: Ensure that all actions related to file destruction are performed in adherence to company policies, internal procedures, and legal requirements for document retention.
5. Data Entry: Accurately input relevant data into the records management database, maintaining data integrity and consistent record-keeping.
6. Adhere to Document Retention Policies: Follow company and legal retention policies, ensuring that only appropriate files are destroyed, and that data is stored correctly for the required timeframes.
Personal attributes
7. Experience in records management, office administration, or related field (preferred, but not essential).
8. Strong attention to detail and accuracy in handling documents and data.
9. Ability to work independently and manage time effectively in both office and remote work settings.
10. Comfortable with learning new technologies and adapting to virtual tools.
11. Knowledge of document retention policies and record-keeping procedures (preferred).
12. Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
13. A proactive and team-orientated approach with the ability to collaborate across departments.
14. Capacity and willingness to climb short ladders/step stools.
15. Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. and push carts full of files regularly.
16. Capability to load, push, and unload carts of boxes or files as needed.
17. The work environment on site is a warehouse setting. Personal protective equipment (PPE) such as high-visibility vests, gloves, and masks will be available as needed. Steel-toed boots are required and will be provided.
