An exciting opportunity has arisen across Newcastle Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust to recruit a self-motivated and dynamic midwife to lead our Governance, Quality and Safety team across perinatal services.
The successful candidate will live by our trust values and share our drive to ensure that patients receive quality and compassionate care. They will report to the Director of Midwifery and work in collaboration with the perinatal quadrumvirate leadership team to ensure effective governance systems are in place.

Main duties of the job
The post holder will have responsibility for developing and coordinating robust systems of governance in order to monitor clinical effectiveness, manage risk and oversee actions. They will ensure that our governance systems align to national, regional and trust level frameworks to ensure compliance with quality and risk management standards and achievement of key performance indicators.
Job responsibilities
The post-holder will:
* Have a Trust wide remit to support the delivery of the clinical effectiveness and clinical audit agenda, with specific focus on the Perinatal services.
* Coordination and quality assurance of evidence for Quality and Risk Management external assessments including NHSLA and Care Quality Commission.
* Work closely with the Perinatal leadership team, to develop and maintain the standards of clinical care throughout the service.
* Develop and implement systems for monitoring of real-time patient information in order to triangulate with clinical incident reporting and investigation.
* Lead and co-ordinate rapid case reviews, reporting serious incidents through Trust wide Pathways.
Person Specification
Qualifications & Education
* First degree, relevant qualification in public sector, clinical or health service management field.
* Significant theoretical and practical experience of clinical governance, risk management, clinical audit and policy development in Maternity Services to Masters level or equivalent.
* NMC Registered Midwife.
Knowledge & Experience
* Significant experience of the NHS at various levels, relevant to clinical governance, clinical audit and policy development.
* Significant experience of working within multi-professional teams.
* Experience of managing people and budgets.
* Extensive involvement in clinical effectiveness and audit activity.
* Experience leading on clinical effectiveness / audit / policy developments.
* Awareness of fundamental national and local policies.
* Comprehensive knowledge of national Maternity policy and strategic ambitions.
* Evidence of relevant continuous professional development.
* Experience of working as a clinical Midwife with current NMC Registration.
* Experience of incident investigation within the Maternity Services.
* A working knowledge of the NHS.
* Extensive experience of committee work and the chairing of meetings.
* Broad experience of quality and clinical effectiveness initiatives.
* Experience of service redesign and improvement.
