Job Description
Our client, a UK-based law firm focused on purpose-driven legal work for charities, social enterprises, and public sector clients, seeks a Risk Counsel to support their commitment to impactful change.
About the Role
As part of the Risk & Compliance function, you’ll advise on regulatory compliance, serve as the first point of escalation, and support the team in handling complex compliance matters while balancing the needs of practice and business teams.
Key Responsibilities
* Act as the main escalation point for compliance issues, including AML, CDD, sanctions, and conflicts.
* Advise on Data Protection/GDPR matters, including breaches, DSARs, and DPIAs.
* Support internal investigations and ensure adherence to SRA Principles and Codes of Conduct.
* Review client engagement terms, supplier contracts, and assist with regulatory procurement aspects.
* Handle preliminary reviews of complaints and claims, reporting to management and insurers.
* Develop and deliver regulatory risk training programs and maintain compliance policies.
* Monitor legal developments, provide insights, and support regulatory standards like ISO accreditations.
* Assist with ongoing compliance projects to enhance the firm's regulatory approach.
About You
* Qualified lawyer with at least 2-3 years of compliance experience in a law firm. Alternatively, you will be an experienced lawyer looking to transition into a risk role.
* Knowledge of professional conduct rules and the regulatory landscape.
* Excellent drafting, communication, and stakeholder engagement skills.
* Ability to work across multiple tasks and to tight deadlines in line with the requirements of the business.
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills with a strong attention to detail.
* Ability to build and maintain strong client relationships with a client-centric approach.
