Animal Health and Welfare NI is an industry led not-for-profit partnership between livestock producers, processors, veterinary practitioners, and government. Our role is to facilitate the control and wherever possible the eradication of diseases of ruminants which are endemic in Northern Ireland. AHWNI is now recognized, nationally and internationally as the lead body in managing industry led intervention strategies for infectious diseases of ruminants in Northern Ireland. The Post A unique opportunity has arisen to lead on the production of external and internal facing applications to facilitate the work programmes of AHWNI. Using data already available, you will develop data driven solutions to help facilitate animal health planning and infectious disease control. You will build web applications that include interactive dashboards, visualizations, and data exploration tools for end users. The focus of your work will be to co-design web-based solutions with AHWNI animal health experts using platforms such as Shiny, Dash, Streamlit or Tableau. The work will focus on: Developing, managing and maintaining intuitive animal health dashboards which Can interact with several animal health data streams internal and external to AHWNI. Allow end users to interact with their data. Access and store data such that data summaries and other outputs can be provided to users. Provide analytical tools to allow disease tracking and infection risk management. In conducting this work, you will be expected to: Co-design with animal health experts and end users, tools to allow the display and interrogation of animal health related data. Lead on the development of web applications using tools such as R Shiny to deliver innovative solutions to data handling, analysis and display. Develop secure linkages with external data sources for use in any utilities developed. Fully document the design and implementation of interactive dashboards and dynamic visualizations for example by using R Markdown documentation. Translate complex datasets into actionable insights for non-technical stakeholders. Ensure all products adhere to compliance standards, including GDPR and WCAG 2.1 AA accessibility. Maintain effective communication with all stakeholders, providing solutions to issues arising in a timely manner. The successful candidate will also play an important role, alongside AHWNI veterinary experts, engaging with AHWNI stakeholders and end users of AHWNI services. This will include livestock farmers, agri-food processors, veterinary practitioners, diagnostic laboratories and government officials. Qualifications, experience, and competencies The successful candidate will need to demonstrate the following competencies and experience: A relevant degree in computer science or a related equivalent qualification. Extensive experience of data science related programming to develop and deploy data handling and visualisation applications using for example R, Shiny Apps, Dash, Streamlit, or Tableau. Strong skills in data visualisation, including interactive visualisation packages. Good understanding of SQL and the ability to work with relational databases. Deploying data science solutions using cloud platforms. Experience creating detailed utility support documentation. Ability to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a team, at all stages of project development, implementation and maintenance. A thorough understanding of data privacy.
