Registered Children's Home Manager
Mickleover, Derbyshire
Salary: £45,000 to £55,000 per year
We are supporting a brilliant client in the search for an experienced and passionate Registered Manager to take the lead at their established two-bed children’s home in a lovely part of Derbyshire.
This is a company that genuinely does things differently. Founded in 2019 by two Directors who both come from residential childcare backgrounds, they set out to build a service where staff feel genuinely valued and supported, where the focus is firmly on young people’s outcomes. Staff wellbeing and professional development are a real priority here, not just a slogan.
The home itself has been registered for three years, recently rated Good by Ofsted (September 2024), and is currently moving its registration over to support young people with more complex mental health needs. This means you’ll be part of a very exciting transition, helping shape the service from early on. It’s a large, welcoming four-bed property, and the young people supported often come from secure units or hospital settings, sometimes under DoLS orders.
You’ll be leading by example, setting the tone for the team around you, and creating a stable, nurturing environment where both young people and staff can thrive. There’s a strong support network in place, including specialist mental health nurses, and a senior leadership team who are hands-on and approachable.
What they’re looking for:
* A confident, compassionate leader with experience managing or deputising in children's residential services
* Someone who understands the complexities and challenges of working with young people with significant emotional and mental health needs
* A person who’s serious about developing staff, upskilling teams, and modelling best practice
* Experience with Ofsted inspections and a willingness to go through registration
* Someone who is calm, organised, and values a positive, child-centred approach
Day-to-day, you’ll be:
* Managing the daily operations of the home in line with legislation and company values
* Leading a team with care, respect, and consistent guidance
* Acting as Designated Safeguarding Lead
* Working directly with senior management to drive positive outcomes
* Supporting and debriefing staff after incidents, helping build a resilient and reflective team culture
* Advocating for young people’s choices and voices at every opportunity
What’s on offer:
* Salary between £45,000 and £55,000, depending on experience
* Company pension
* Health and wellbeing programme
* Free parking and discounted food
* Additional leave and company events
* A genuine focus on staff support and career progression
* The chance to be part of a growing organisation at a key point in its development
Interview process:
An initial phone call, followed by a Teams interview, and then an informal meet and greet with the Directors.
Requirements:
* Full UK Driving Licence
* Minimum two years’ experience managing or deputising in a children’s residential setting
* Level 5 in Leadership & Management in Residential Childcare (or equivalent)
* Solid knowledge of children’s mental health needs, DOLS orders, step downs from secure or hospital environments
* If you’re looking to join a company where you can genuinely make a difference, be listened to, and help shape the future of children's residential care, we’d love to hear from you.
