We are delighted to invite applications for a 12 month locum consultant post in Paediatric Oncology and General Paediatrics. Applications are welcomed from candidates that hold SPIN or GRID (or equivalent) training in the oncology. The successful candidates will join a highly motivated, consultant led team delivering high quality paediatric care to Tower Hamlets & East London.
The post holder will provide cover for maternity leave and will support the general paediatric consultant team meeting the paediatric emergency service standards in having on-site presence 14 hrs a day, 7 days a week.
The paediatric oncology and general paediatric departments are based at the Royal London Hospital in Whitechapel. The Children’s Hospital Division of the Royal London Hospital manages over 20,000 inpatient spells a year and sees over 22,000 new patients and over 47,000 follow up patients per year in clinic. The oncology service runs a level 2 POSCU that has approximately 50 patients being actively managed at any point in time.
The paediatric department is welcoming and friendly. Our multidisciplinary clinical team includes nurses, play specialists, clinical practitioners, clinical nurse specialists and allied health professionals working alongside doctors in training, clinical fellows, associate specialists & consultants. All of our team are dedicated to the highest standards in clinical care and patient safety.
The paedaitric oncology duties of the post include; inpatient ward reviews 2-3 days a week, a weekly paediatric oncology outpatient clinic and MDT, chemotherapy prescribing (must have PTC prescribing accreditation), working with three Macmillan clinical nurse specialists & two other consultant colleagues with dedicated oncology time in their job plan to provide cover for the service. There is no on-call commitment for oncology.
The general paediatric duties of the post include; participation in the short stay attending week rotas &/or inpatient attending week rotas, the on-call rota (which includes on-site duties until 22:00 on week nights) and both general paediatric & rapid access clinics.
This is a 10PA post but applications are welcome from candidates hoping to work less than whole time or who wish to job share.
Candidates must:
1. hold full registration with the GMC with a licence to practice.
2. be on the GMC specialist register or be within six months of successful completion of UK paediatric training at the time of interview.
