The Registered Practical Nurse (RPN) reports to the Health and Wellness Manager and is responsible for the day-to-day safety and provision of personal care and services for seniors. By promoting the values, goals, and philosophy of the Home, the RPN effortlessly engages in meaningful interactions with residents, families, and team members.
Responsibilities:
1. Provides direction and supervision to PSWs/team members.
2. Responsible for ongoing assessment of resident care needs, monitoring and reporting changes.
3. Participates in the development and modification of resident’s plan of care. Assists in implementing/evaluating the effectiveness of the plans.
4. Supports/participates in the orientation of new Associates.
5. Accountable for the medication delivery system for the Residents.
6. Ensures medications are ordered, received, and administered as prescribed.
7. Liaisons with Residents, families, and outside agencies as required.
8. Respects the Residents’ Bill of Rights.
9. Liaisons with the Resident’s physician as necessary.
10. Promotes a safe, healthy workplace.
11. Completes weights and blood pressure checks as required.
12. Provides ongoing education to Associates to meet legislative requirements and learning needs of Associates.
13. Aware of role and responsibilities under the Occupational Health & Safety Act.
14. Inspires others to be motivated and work with passion and empowers staff.
15. Completes nursing documentation.
16. Any and all other tasks as assigned.
Qualifications:
The qualifications needed to join our family are as follows:
1. Current Certificate of Competence with the College of Nurses of Ontario as a Registered Practical Nurse or a Registered Practical Nurse registered with a regulatory authority in a Canadian jurisdiction other than Ontario and holds in that jurisdiction the equivalent of a certificate of registration authorizing independent practice in Ontario as of right exemption Bill 60.
2. Experience in Retirement or long-term care preferred.
3. A high degree of tolerance and patience.
4. Well-developed written and oral communication skills.
5. Supervisory capability and experience.
6. Ability to walk, stand, carry equipment, and ability to lift and transfer Residents.
7. Basic CPR and First aid preferred.
8. Ability to work with and relate to interdisciplinary team members.
9. Ability to work from the heart and make others smile.
10. Must have a clear vulnerable sector screen, no older than 6 months, TB test results less than 6 months old, must be able to provide three supervisory references.
