The Department of Marketing is a major contributor to the success of Birmingham Business School, delivering internationally excellent research and teaching across our MScs in Marketing and Strategic Marketing and Consultancy and the whole portfolio of programmes in Business and Management, our new MBA suite. Additionally, we are expanding our portfolio of programmes and therefore are looking to grow our faculty base. We are preparing for the launch of a new Distance Learning MSc in Strategic Marketing Practice for 2025 and a new BSc in Marketing in September 2026. Our vibrant and diverse team of 47 staff include award winning teaching staff as well as world renowned research active staff who contribute to the wider field of Marketing and beyond through publications in top ranked journals, organising key events and conferences worldwide, obtaining funding from national and international research councils and grant schemes, with many holding positions on editorial boards of internationally recognised journals. Role Summary As an Assistant Professor in Marketing (Education focused), you will make a substantial contribution to the delivery of high-quality student experience and ideally have experience of teaching at different levels and contexts. You will be able to demonstrate an appetite for best practice in Marketing pedagogy and engagement with scholarship. Through excellent teaching you will inspire students and be informed by discipline-based research and the management, development and delivery of teaching and assessment, whilst enhancing the student experience and employability. You will contribute to a range of education-related activities. Teaching is likely to include a substantial contribution to: (a) the management, development and delivery of teaching and assessment at all levels; and (b) enhancement of the student experience and employability. The role will typically also involve developing and advising others, including: (a) providing expert advice to staff and students, and (b) developing and advising others on learning and teaching tasks and methods. You will be expected to advance teaching and learning practice in your modules within the department, take a role in leading curriculum development and play an important role in student academic and pastoral support. We are specifically interested in people who can lead the development and delivery of teaching on our UG and MSc portfolios and are open to candidates with expertise in a range of teaching (and/or research) related areas at the cutting edge of the Marketing discipline. You will supervise UG and MSc dissertations. Management and administration opportunities are likely to include developing and making substantial contributions to knowledge transfer, enterprise, business engagement, public engagement widening participation, schools outreach, or similar activities at Department/School level or further within the University. Main Duties Education Using a variety of methods in teaching and advising individuals and groups of undergraduates, postgraduates, or CPD students, including (as appropriate): teaching and examining courses at a range of levels; planning and reviewing your own teaching approaches and encouraging others to do the same; designing contemporary, inclusive, engaging and academically challenging curriculum content; working collaboratively with colleagues to design and deliver teaching, learning and assessment; using digital resources/environments effectively to support learning and assessment; developing programme proposals and making substantial contributions to the design of teaching programmes more widely; where appropriate, undertaking and developing the full range of responsibilities in relation to supervision, marking and examining; developing and advising others on learning and teaching tasks and methods; developing and making substantial contributions to knowledge transfer, enterprise, business engagement, public engagement activities or similar on own specialism that enhances the student experience or employability and which benefits the College and University; devising and supervising projects, student dissertations and practical work. Research Planning and carrying out research, including (as appropriate): Application of scholarship focused research in a marketing context. An appetite to develop marketing-related pedagogical research that contributes to the advancement of the learning and teaching in the field. Management/Administration Contributing to Departmental/School administration, including: contributing to the administration/management of research and/or teaching across the Department/School; leading and managing a team to devise and implement a new and/or revised process (e.g. new programme or a recruitment drive); advising on personal development of colleagues and students; making a major contribution to some administrative activities within the University (e.g. appeals panels, working groups); managing enterprise, business development, and public engagement activities; developing and making substantial contributions to knowledge transfer, enterprise, business engagement, public engagement, widening participation, schools outreach; actively manages equality, diversity and inclusion through monitoring and evaluation and actively challenging unacceptable behaviour.
