About the Role:
The Head of Global Payroll is responsible for leading the global payroll operations team at Deel to design, implement, and manage a scalable global model for payroll operations and administration for our customers in 150+ countries, and for over 3500 employees under multiple divisional and regional payroll entities and product lines. As the global process owner of payroll,the role is responsible for the redesign and reorganization of the various payroll-related processes and teams into a more cohesive, standardized, and streamlined organization, optimized to deliver outstanding service to Deel customers and employees. This role will work closely with the various Operational, Finance, Tax, IT, and HR functions and other key stakeholders to build trust and resolve issues, as well as provide ongoing coaching and development to the Payroll directors, managers, and team members.
Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, this role will be highly visible to executive leadership and a key player in establishing a best-in-class payroll product and services organization.
This role is designed for payroll professionals who will leverage their significant experience in payroll operations, administration and leadership to influence product whilst building a business and team at scale for best in class global payroll delivery. Owners, builders, and those curious and interested to build the first truly global payroll offering will be best suited to the role.
What You Will Do:
1. Serve as a key member of the Operations leadership team working closely with the team to effectively lead, manage and support Deel’s global payroll business across multiple product lines.
2. Leverage global payroll knowledge and deep experience to both influence and guide product development in the areas of payroll services, but also to design, build and manage global payroll organizational structure and teams.
3. Leverage operational prowess to tackle some of the most complex challenges in delivering global payroll at scale and building the team and technology to support it.
4. Lead a variety of cross-functional initiatives, in the advancement of the strategic direction of Operations OKRs. This includes building and/or identifying teams to work through the completion of large, high profile projects, in addition to owning the scope, identifying measures of success, and managing the team(s) through successful completion of the initiative(s).
5. Build out Global Payroll Operations reporting & planning capabilities and cadence to inform departmental planning, strategic decision making and demonstrate organizational impact and value delivery.
6. Partner with the Head of Payroll Implementation, Product, Sales, and other Operational leaders in HR to ensure the overall business strategy and roadmap for global payroll administration, inclusive of tax, is aligned to deliver results and preserve the integrity of Deel compliance and service reliability.
7. Evaluate business structures and processes and assess issues that serve as barriers to operational effectiveness and efficiency. Drive decisions and steer implementation involving the creation of new and improvements or streamlining of existing programs.
8. Proactively drive change management activities to ensure wide adoption and acceptance of changes, including engaging key leaders and facilitating impact assessments, training, and other communications
9. Play a key role in the integration of acquired companies into Deel’s Payroll structure, processes, and teams
10. Serve as a trusted advisor to senior and executive leadership on current Payroll and Payroll tax/compliance trends, best-in-class processes, and competitive technologies
11. Be responsible for the delivery of Deel’s Managed Payroll, and Employer of Record (EOR) products
What You Will Bring:
12. 15+ years of relevant experience in Payroll or related Human Resources, Operational or Finance experience
13. 10+ years of relevant experience leading Payroll and related processes in large, complex, and rapidly changing organizations
14. Experience with managing Payroll for employees in a minimum of 25 countries to establish knowledge base in global payroll administration and how to build for scale
15. Experience with cloud-based (SaaS) Payroll applications
16. Experience with navigating and managing, and knowledge of compliance, for global payroll tax and relevant solutions and requirements
17. Experience with Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) implementation and/or compliance programs, and a history of developing and maintaining high quality and detailed process and controls documentation (eg. SOPs / DTPs)
18. A proven track record of driving significant process improvement and organizational redesign projects, such as the establishment of a Payroll shared-service environment; integration of multiple acquired companies into an existing Payroll organization; or implementation of new Payroll software and associated process reengineering
19. Aptitude for streamlining and simplifying teams, policies, and processes for efficiency, but with an appropriate balance of internal controls
20. Demonstrated experience driving large scale builds, changes, and implementations requiring process changes, project management and change management
21. Experience with, and keen interest in, driving growth and performance metrics, preferably from a revenue perspective
22. Excellent leadership skills, including the ability to interact effectively with people with diverse styles; make informed decisions, find solutions, encourage and support change; and, to constructively deal with conflicts and leverage different perspectives.
23. Excellent approach to problem analysis and resolution at both a strategic and functional level.
