The long established Corneal fellowship posts offer excellent opportunities for sub specialist training in Corneal transplantation surgery, Ocular surface management and Refractive surgery. There will also be opportunity to partake in clinical and basic science research at the University of Liverpool where an honorary contract can be arranged if the applicant is interested. The supervising consultants are innovators in their fields of work, have pioneered new concepts and services and have international reputations. Start date will be 2nd April 2025 Main duties of the job There is a comprehensive keratoconus service with the second largest NHS corneal cross-linking service in the UK. We offer modern treatments for keratoconus including corneal ring segments, PRK/CXL and Femto second laser assisted corneal grafting. The unit also provides a comprehensive corneal transplantation service where approximately 200 corneal transplant procedures are undertaken each year. These comprise of PK, DALK, DMEK, DSAEK in addition to artificial corneas (Boston Keratoprosthesis) and combined cases. Our theatres benefit from intraoperative OCT support and 3D visualisation systems. The Refractive and Excimer Laser Service provides both a therapeutic NHS service and a private service for the treatment of corneal and refractive disorders of the eye. There is a Schwind Excimer and a Z8 Femtosecond laser. There is a very active translational clinical research programme in collaboration with the University of Liverpool where an honorary contract can be organised to facilitate research projects candidates may wish to develop.
