Location: Various, UK
Salary: £40,000 - £60,000
About the Role
We are seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to join our dynamic team, contributing to the design and development of military vehicles and their subsystems. This role will involve working on cutting-edge defence technology, from concept development to final production, ensuring the highest levels of performance, durability, and reliability in demanding environments.
You will be responsible for designing structural, mechanical, and electro-mechanical components, working closely with manufacturing, systems engineering, and testing teams to bring innovative defence solutions to life.
Key Responsibilities
* Design and develop mechanical components and subsystems for armoured vehicles, tracked/wheeled platforms, and defence-related mobility solutions.
* Produce 3D CAD models and engineering drawings using [insert CAD software, e.g., CATIA, Creo, SolidWorks].
* Conduct FEA (Finite Element Analysis) and structural analysis to ensure designs meet performance, safety, and durability standards.
* Work closely with manufacturing, procurement, and supply chain teams to ensure designs are optimised for production (DFM/DFA principles).
* Engage in prototype development, assembly, and testing, supporting root cause analysis and design improvements.
* Ensure compliance with military and defence standards (e.g., MIL-STD, DEF STAN).
* Provide technical support for vehicle integration and system-level designs, working alongside electrical and electronic engineers.
* Manage engineering documentation, including BOMs, technical reports, and test plans.
What We’re Looking For
Degree or HND/HNC in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, or a related field.
Experience in mechanical design within defence, automotive, aerospace, or heavy engineering industries.
Proficiency in 3D CAD software (e.g., CATIA, Creo, NX, or SolidWorks).
Strong understanding of mechanical systems, materials, and manufacturing processes (sheet metal, castings, machining, welding, composites, etc.).
Experience with FEA, thermal analysis, or structural simulations.
Knowledge of ballistic protection, blast resistance, or vehicle dynamics (desirable but not essential).
Familiarity with military vehicle standards (e.g., STANAG, DEF STAN, MIL-STD) is an advantage.
Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work in a fast-paced, high-security environment.
UK security clearance eligibility is required (British Citizen or Dual National with British citizenship).
What We Offer
Exciting projects developing next-generation military technology.
Career development opportunities, training, and progression pathways.
Cutting-edge R&D exposure in a secure, high-tech environment.
Competitive salary and benefits package, including bonus, pension, and flexible working (depending on project requirements).
