Job Purpose: We are seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated Classroom Support Assistant to join our dynamic team at a primary school located in Oldham, Lancashire. The successful candidate will provide proactive support to pupils within Key Stage 1, both inside and outside of the classroom environment. The role requires a candidate who is skilled in leading phonics sessions, managing behaviour effectively, and working full-time hours.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Provide a high level of in-class support to enhance the learning experience of KS1 pupils.
2. Lead small group and individual phonics sessions to improve pupils’ literacy skills.
3. Facilitate out-of-class support to address the educational needs of children requiring additional assistance.
4. Implement behaviour management strategies consistently to maintain a positive and effective learning environment.
5. Collaborate with teachers to plan and organise educational activities and materials that align with the curriculum.
6. Assist in the preparation of the classroom for lessons, including setting up equipment and resources.
7. Monitor and record pupils' progress, relaying information to the class teacher and adapting strategies as necessary.
8. Encourage and support children's social development, ensuring their safety and well-being at all times.
9. Participate in staff meetings, training, and professional development opportunities as required.
Essential Requirements:
1. NVQ Level 2 or equivalent qualification related to education or child care.
2. Proven experience in a KS1 classroom setting, particularly with leading phonics sessions.
3. Effective strategies for supporting children with diverse educational needs.
4. Strong understanding of child development and contemporary educational methods.
5. Ability to communicate effectively with pupils, staff, and parents.
6. Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
7. Capable of working independently as well as part of a team.
8. A proactive and flexible approach to work tasks.
Desirable Attributes:
1. Additional qualifications or training specific to primary education or special educational needs (SEN).
2. Creative and innovative ideas for facilitating engaging learning experiences.
3. First Aid qualification.
