Major Recruitment are currently seeking a number of Pipefitter/Welders for our client based in the Elland area of West Yorkshire.
This is an exciting opportunity to join a well established and fast growing engineering company who are looking to strengthen their engineering team.
Purpose of the Role
The purpose of the role is to manufacture, weld, assemble and install piping structures used in conveying and handling the likes of food stuffs, powders, hot liquids and steam.
The Pipefitter welder will take direction and instruction from the assigned Project/Contracts engineer and assume responsibility for facilitating the day to day requirements of specific projects whilst on clients sites and in the workshop ensuring that you are working safely and efficiently whilst satisfying the needs of the business and the customer.
In addition to these departmental responsibilities this job description is neither exhaustive nor exclusive and may be reviewed in the future depending upon operational requirements and staffing levels.
Key Responsibilities
* Take instruction and guidance from the Contracts/Project engineer/ Workshop Manager and take the day to day responsibility and organisation of themselves whilst on specific projects on client's sites and in the workshop.
* Ensure appropriate targets and time scales are achieved in line with project engineering and customer requirements
* Working in collaboration with the Contracts/Project engineer/ Workshop Manager and other team members to facilitate the delivery of technically challenging projects, on schedule and to the desired quality and in accordance with the site constraints.
* Assisting with the installation activities across various disciplines and within the assigned team.
* Working to maximise manufacturing output, maintain efficiencies and reduce costs, in accordance with project engineering schedules.
* Working to information provided regarding internal manufacturing requirements and reporting back any shortages to the Contracts/Project engineer/ Workshop Manager in a timely fashion to allow efficiencies of design, purchase, and manufacture.
* Work and adhere to risk assessments and method statements as to meet all legislative, business and customers' requirements.
* Interpret and adhere to customers engineering and hygiene standards and be adaptable to apply these standards to customer specific requirements.
* Ensure any on site project changes are captured and communicated back to the Contracts/Project engineer
* Ensure schedules are understood and workload is managed to meet the business priorities and objectives.
* Courteous and informative interaction with customers as and when required and provide technical support during project deliveries and installations
Key Skills & Experience
* Be competent (and confident) in the technical aspects of process engineering pipework manufacture, assembly, and installation ideally with a knowledge of special purpose machinery (gained within a similar industry or environment).
* Experienced in hygienic stainless-steel purge TIG welding of dairy, sched tube and ancillary items such as brackets and supports.
* An understanding of temperature-controlled pipe work systems.
* Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings such as P&IDs, layouts, and spool drawings.
* Excellent team working and organisational skills, being able to prioritise requirements to meet demands from project engineering.
* Possess a good understanding of the principles of mechanical engineering and hygienic practice within the food manufacturing environment.
* Experience in delivering solutions to technical issues.
* Sound interpersonal and communication skills (verbal and written), with the ability to communicate at all levels both internally and externally with customers, suppliers and staff.
* Experience of technical projects including working to tight timescales and meeting project milestones throughout the project life cycle.
* Excellent time management and organisational skills, being able to prioritise requirements to meet differing demands.
* The desire to deliver a high level of quality and customer service.
* A supportive and encouraging approach to mentoring less experienced members of the team.
* Strong problem-solving skills and with the ability to delegate when necessary
Qualifications
* 5 plus years' experience in a relevant production or engineering discipline.
* Apprentice trained in a relevant mechanical engineering field.
* Full and current British driving licence
The role is based at our client in Elland however there maybe occasion where off site work may need to be carried out and you maybe required to work away although this is very rare.
Monday to Thursday 7.30am to 4pm, Friday 7.30am to 3.30pm
