University Hospital Southampton NHS Trust
University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust is delighted to offer a fantastic opportunity to work with us.
Please see below for detailed job description of the role.
Main duties of the job
We are looking for a motivated, skilled and caring professional to join a friendly and cohesive team of dedicated paediatric radiologists at the University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust.
Paediatric radiology is an essential component of the Southampton Children's Hospital, and we have exciting plans to grow the service to continue to provide an excellent tertiary service and advise our local DGHs. The successful candidates will have subspecialist training in paediatric radiology and be able to participate fully with the varied work of the department including the dedicated on-call rota. This would consist of providing a comprehensive diagnostic paediatric radiology service which includes general plain radiography, CT, ultrasound, and MRI. Experience in leading imaging in multidisciplinary meetings is essential.
In recognition of the national shortage of paediatric radiologists, this post is currently eligible for a recruitment and retention incentive of £10,000 (pro rata) payable on joining the Trust (terms and conditions apply); this will be renegotiated annually until we are fully staffed.
About us
As one of the largest acute teaching Trusts in England, we offer learning and development opportunities to help you achieve the career you aspire to. UHS is rated 'Good' by the CQC and in the latest national NHS Staff Survey, we were in the top 10 acute trusts for staff engagement and for staff recommending the hospital as a place to work or receive care.
We support flexible working and will consider requests taking into account the needs of the service. UHS employees are able to access a range of NHS discounts, are entitled to a minimum of 35 days paid holiday (pro rata), and we offer a generous pension scheme.
Job responsibilities
A standard full-time Job Plan will contain 10 Programmed Activities, which includes 8 PAs for direct clinical care and 2 supporting PAs. Sessions will be a mix of acute/emergency work and outpatient reporting.
The on call is overseen by a single consultant, supported by a senior registrar. Compensation for on call commitments is provided with a non-working day per week (2 PAs).
The successful candidate will be encouraged to develop a subspecialty interest in collaboration with their colleagues. Paediatric neuroradiology is not essential, but we will endeavour to accommodate a strong interest in this subspecialty. Similarly, an interest in dedicated paediatric interventional radiology will be supported.
Applicants would be expected to participate in training and quality improvement activity if appointed.
