What skills and experience we're looking for
Are you looking to join a high-performing and ambitious team of teachers in a thriving school? Due to the continued success within the school we are able to offer a new post to increase capacity in our Business and Computing faculty. We are looking to appoint a Business and/or Travel and Tourism teacher, to join the team from September 2025.
Great Western Academy opened in brand new, state-of-the-art facilities in North Swindon in September 2018. The Academy is heavily oversubscribed in all years and has a flourishing sixth form to match.
Our first two sets of GCSE results showed that the progress made by the large majority of students has been excellent, particularly in English and Maths. Benchmark results are well above national averages (2024: 53% grade 5+ in English and Maths, 74% grade 4+ in English and Maths) from cohorts that matched national averages on entry. This reflects progress by students of all abilities.
The results of our first four A-level cohorts have also been excellent and enabled 98% of university applicants to take up their offers, including four to Oxford and Cambridge; students have also secured prestigious apprenticeships with companies such as with Airbus and Rolls Royce.
An opportunity has arisen to join our Business and Computing Faculty to support the teaching of Business Studies and/or Travel and Tourism at GCSE and A-level. This post is available due to the growth of our A-level teaching in these subjects, with a strong uptake forecast from our applicants for a Sixth Form place for this September. We are therefore looking for an enthusiastic and positive practitioner, ideally with previous experience of successful GCSE and A-level teaching though the post would also suit an entrant to the profession. Our priority is very much to recruit the best classroom practitioners who can ensure our students arrive at the Academy excited about the day ahead and leave each day talking about the excellent learning they have experienced.
Great Western Academy runs a successful enrichment programme for all students from 3.10pm to 4.15pm Tuesdays and Wednesdays. The subjects studied are as diverse as Astronomy, Orchestra, Volleyball, Pokemon and Scrabble. Enrichment broadens and deepens a student’s range of experiences at school and gives them the opportunity to learn with other age groups. All teachers will run one enrichment session a week as part of their directed hours. It is an opportunity to engage students’ interest in an area of your own interest.
Great Western Academy aims to radically improve the life chances of every student who attends. Our new building and state-of-the-art facilities help us to achieve this, but it is the fantastic team of staff who turn our vision into reality. If you have the ability to inspire students in the classroom and beyond then this provides you with an exciting opportunity to further shape your practice and develop your career.
