Job Title: Environmental Project Engineer

The Role:
As an Environmental Project Engineer, you will be integral to all land, sea, and air-based weapons system projects. You will provide a key technical focal point for all stages of the product lifecycle, from concept definition and product development through design aid and formal qualification, and into in-service support. Your expertise will cover:
1. Requirements specification and management
2. Data analysis
3. Simulation and modelling
4. Testing in climatic, mechanical (vibration and shock), structural mechanical, and fatigue
You will apply specialist technical knowledge and advice, ensuring technical accuracy and delivery of projects within assigned work packages.
What We Do:
We interface with project teams to define requirements, develop strategies, and collate evidence to support designs. We define the environments that the products will encounter in service and support other functions and projects in developing robust designs and efficient proving strategies.
What Are We Looking For?
You are expected to work closely and build relationships with various functions, sectors, and Chief Engineers, including Systems Engineering, Architecture, Design, and Proving teams. Your responsibilities will include:
1. Providing technical expertise in generating environmental requirements and developing robust product designs.
2. Defining and managing cost-effective test strategies throughout the product development cycle.
3. Planning, delivering, and monitoring assigned work packages.
Some key challenges include effectively managing multiple tasks and priorities concurrently and maintaining the integrity of engineering outputs while interacting with customers at a high level.
Specific Role Responsibilities:
1. Be a primary contact for Environmental Engineering technical details arising from offsite trials.
2. Manage day-to-day activities from project kick-off to completion of an environmental test programme.
3. Provide guidance to the offsite trials facility to ensure requirements are met.
4. Cover reporting requirements for the project.
5. Communicate progress and areas of concern to the appropriate authority.
6. Regular travel to the trials site for in-person meetings and data reviews.
Skillset/Experience Required:
1. Educated to degree level or with equivalent experience.
2. Experience in planning and managing small to medium-sized work packages.
3. Knowledge of environmental engineering within the defence sector or relevant industry.
4. Understanding of environmental test processes and instrumentation.
5. Knowledge of international Environmental Standards.
6. Analytical mind with excellent problem-solving skills.
7. Strong verbal and written communication abilities.
8. Effective team player with strong interpersonal skills.
