My client is currently looking for a Finance Manager to join them on a maternity cover basis.
Job Purpose:
The Finance Manager is responsible for overseeing the financial health of the company. This role involves formulating long-term strategic financial plans, leading financial reporting and analysis, and managing the daily operations of the Finance and Accounting Department. The Finance Manager will work closely with the Director of Operations and CEO to ensure the business is meeting its financial goals, while implementing systems to reduce financial risks and optimize profitability.
Key Responsibilities:
Financial Planning & Analysis:
* Develop long-term and strategic financial business plans, including performance reporting and analysis.
* Analyze and interpret the company’s financial data, identifying areas for improvement.
* Provide financial reports to senior management as necessary, highlighting key trends, potential issues, and opportunities for financial growth.
* Monitor the company’s budget and forecasts, offering insights to capitalize on growth and identify risks.
Financial Reporting:
* Lead the preparation and analysis of quarterly and annual financial reports, presenting key findings to the Senior Leadership Team at quarterly and annual company meetings.
* Monitor and compare year-on-year profit and loss data, identifying trends and areas for improvement.
Risk Management & Compliance:
* Identify and manage financial risks, reporting any issues to the Director of Operations.
* Implement corrective actions for any errors or anomalies in financial records.
* Ensure compliance with accounting standards and maintain financial certifications (e.g., CIMA, ACA).
Payroll & Transactions:
* Collaborate with the Director of Operations on payroll-related matters, with the goal of assuming full responsibility for payroll within the probation period.
* Implement and oversee systems for financial checks, transaction monitoring, and reconciliations.
* Establish a procedure for the timely tracking and payment of invoices, and follow up on outstanding payments.
Team Management & Development:
* Lead, mentor, and manage the accounting team, ensuring their success in delivering financial objectives.
* Conduct performance appraisals and implement necessary training or development to enhance team performance.
* Organize regular team meetings and one-on-ones to assess progress and ensure the team is aligned with financial goals.
System & Process Improvement:
* Implement and oversee the purchase order and general ledger systems across the business.
* Continuously review and improve accounting practices and procedures to ensure operational efficiency.
* Work with senior leadership to set realistic, profitable financial goals for the company.
Communication & Support:
* Serve as the first point of contact for the accounting team, providing support and guidance as needed.
* Address pay-related queries from staff and ensure the team adheres to financial deadlines and company policies.
Professional Development:
* Maintain up-to-date knowledge of financial regulations and industry best practices.
* Attend relevant workshops, seminars, and networking events to stay current with financial trends and improve the company’s financial position.
Qualifications & Experience:
* A Master’s Degree in Finance, Accounting, or a related field (preferred).
* Professional qualifications such as CIMA, ACA, or equivalent are highly desirable.
* Proven experience in financial management, with strong knowledge of accounting principles and practices.
* Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret complex financial data.
* Experience in leading teams, with excellent communication and leadership skills.
* Ability to work under pressure and meet strict deadlines.
