About the role
We are looking to recruit an energetic and values-led Employment Specialist to lead on the development and delivery of employment support to our residents. The Employment Specialist will lead on development and delivery of Your Place’s employment, education and training support, creating opportunities for our residents to fulfill their potential which will contribute towards building a better future for themselves.
Ideally, you will have a successful track record in finding and supporting individual employment or training placements for vulnerable people, as well as having an IAG or equivalent qualification. A background of working with refugees in employment settings would be desirable.
Salary: £32,240 - £38,480 annual salary
Contract: Permanent
Hours: 37.5 hrs - Monday to Friday
Location: Canning Town
Other responsibilities include
* To be responsible to the Team Manager for the day-to-day delivery of the ETE service offer.
* Develop and deliver resident employment initiatives, including the delivery of specific commissioned ETE programmes.
* Be the initial and ongoing point of contact for residents who are pursuing employment and learning opportunities.
* Implement and oversee referrals and signposting of residents to internal and external provision and services, ensuring that each resident receives a tailored package of support that enables them to achieve their personal learning, training, and employment goals.
* Devise and deliver group sessions and activities as required.
* Hold regular progress meetings with residents, tracking progress against action plans, modifying plans when necessary, troubleshooting any issues with referrals, and using a range of coaching tools to support residents to continue with progression towards their goals.
* Maintain positive, consistent, and effective relationships with a range of internal and external services with the objectives of a) retaining up-to-date knowledge of existing learning, training, and employment opportunities; and b) maximizing resident uptake.
* Actively implement monitoring and contract evaluation framework by integrating systematic data capture and the use of evaluation tools into service delivery.
* Liaise closely with Keyworkers and other team members, responding to referrals and arranging to meet residents in a timely manner.
* Keep accurate records of meetings with residents, outcomes, and referrals.
* Ensure that data is captured in the relevant databases in a timely manner, and that the relevant paperwork is used consistently and updated when required.
* Contribute towards the contract management of funded employment programmes, including supporting the Senior Management Team in negotiations and ongoing contract management.
* Ensure that Employment Programme standards, milestones, and outcomes/outputs are achieved in line with contract standards.
* In conjunction with the Fundraising and Communications team, develop partnership opportunities with corporate supporters to contribute towards the service objectives.
* Ensure that all duties and services provided are in accordance with policies and procedures.
* To comply with individual responsibilities, in accordance with work role for health and safety in the workplace.
* To undertake such other duties within the competence of the post holder which may be required from time to time.
* To build and maintain good working relationships with colleagues.
About you
Experience
* Experience of providing personalised advice, coaching, and support to individuals facing homelessness or other forms of social exclusion, ideally combined with an IAG qualification.
* Experience of Individual Placement Scheme or similar services providing in-work support for individuals and employers focusing on support around workplace adjustment and job retention.
* Experience of managing a large client caseload, maintaining accurate records and adopting a systematic approach to service delivery.
Skills & knowledge
* Knowledge or experience of coaching or motivational interviewing techniques.
* Thorough and up-to-date knowledge of the learning, training, and employment issues for vulnerable adults.
* Knowledge of safeguarding and professional boundaries best practice for working with vulnerable adults, and the ability to apply this.
* Knowledge of the current adult education landscape and employment support services.
* Knowledge of the Equality Act and related schemes such as Access to Work.
* Excellent communication skills (oral and written) and high level of numeracy.
* A person-centred and strengths-based approach to initiate and maintain constructive and appropriate relationships with residents.
Abilities
* Customer service focused, able to develop productive working relationships with individual residents and external partners.
* Effectively resolves problems after exploring the options and considering the implications. Escalates appropriately where local solutions are not available.
* Willingness to initiate and embrace change.
Personal qualities
* Self-sufficient and highly organised with the ability to accomplish goals according to deadlines, and a flexibility to juggle a variety of tasks.
* Ability to act on own initiative and effectively under own direction, as well as productively within a team.
* Strong sense of responsibility and accountability.
* Awareness of own training and support needs.
Desirable criteria
* Understanding of issues and practice specifically relating to employment opportunities for the migrant population.
