Job Description
We are looking for a skilled Finance Manager to join our senior team this summer. This is a new role within the school and an exciting opportunity for development. Applications for hybrid working will be considered.
The post of Finance Manager is a key role in the school’s senior leadership team, supporting the Head and Governing Body in the delivery of the School’s strategic and operational plans. The Finance Manager works closely with the Finance Assistant and the wider staff to ensure the smooth financial operation of the school.
Financial Management
* In consultation with the Head and Governing Body, establish financial systems to maintain and monitor the financial health of the School, ensuring effective operation of all financial services and commercial activities.
* Ensure the School’s compliance with company law, charity law, applicable accounting standards, relevant charity and tax legislation as well as any other regulatory requirements placed upon independent schools.
* Prepare three year forecasts and an annual school budget for the head and governing body.
* Liaise with the school’s auditors to produce annual accounts.
* Produce regular finance monitoring reports, tracking against agreed targets.
* Manage cash flow and provide regular monitoring reports to the Head and Governing Body.
* Ensure compliance with financial regulations.
* Manage the school’s VAT accounting and returns.
* Maintain the fixed asset register.
* Review and update key policies relating to the finance operation of the school.
Fee Collection
* Manage the collection of school fees and other charges, including nursery.
* Ensure timely an accurate billing
* Manage debtors and debt collection
Payroll and HR Administration
* Handle payroll for all school staff, including pensions, ensuring compliance with tax regulations
* Track staff absence and return to work
Strategic Planning
* Assist in the development and implementation of the school’s strategic plan, including long-term financial planning and capital expenditure projects
Operations and Procurement
* Oversee and expand the commercial activity of the school, including external lettings, holiday clubs and summer school.
* Ensure that the activities of the Governing Body are adequately and appropriately insured against loss or liability, acting as the primary point of contact with the school’s insurance brokers.
* Manage the purchase of goods and services for the School ensuring best value for money.
* Oversee contracts with external suppliers ensuring quality of service and cost effectiveness.
The post holder is expected to attend appropriate conferences and training to stay up to date and undertake any other tasks which may be required from time-to-time by the Head, contributing to special or ad hoc projects as required.
