JOB TITLE: Proposals Engineer / Tendering Engineer / Applications Engineer
REPORTING TO: Sales Manager
RESPONSIBLE FOR: N/A
JOB SUMMARY:
The Proposals Engineer will provide timely, accurate quotations for blower packages by interpreting application requirements, addressing technical and commercial queries, and delivering a high-quality service to global customers.
MAIN DUTIES OF THE JOB:
1. Reviewing customer enquiries, including data sheets, project specifications, piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs), and terms and conditions.
2. Collaborating with the blower engineering department to discuss blower design and estimate material costs, labour, and lead times.
3. Coordinating with the design department to produce GA drawings and P&IDs.
4. Working with the project engineering and production departments to assess available resources and estimate labour and lead times.
5. Engaging with the quality department to keep procedures (enquiry; sales order), templates (commercial proposal, technical description, costing), and other sales-related quality documents up to date.
6. Selecting suitable materials of construction, flow control, sealing systems, lubrication systems, cooling, acoustic attenuation, and instrumentation for new blowers and blower packages, advising customers accordingly.
7. Conducting calculations to size equipment such as blowers, motors, auxiliary systems (e.g. ventilation and seal support), and components (e.g. bearings and electric immersion heaters).
8. Performing calculations on gas densities, pressure losses, coolant flows, power, torque, shaft stress, lateral vibration, and sound levels.
9. Drafting requests for quotation (RFQs) for suppliers.
10. Estimating material costs and labour requirements for manufacturing blower packages and calculating selling prices.
11. Assessing weights, dimensions, noise levels, and blower slip for new blowers and blower packages.
12. Preparing proposal documents and maintaining accurate records of opportunities and bids.
13. Drafting technical deviations and clarifications in response to customer project specifications.
14. Drafting commercial deviations and clarifications in response to customer terms and conditions.
15. Participating in bid clarification meetings, commercial negotiations, and kick-off meetings with customers.
16. Supporting the blower engineering, project engineering, drawing, and production departments throughout the project lifecycle.

PERSON SPECIFICATION:
Education:
* Essential: Degree in a physical science, engineering, or mathematics
* Desirable: Degree in chemical or mechanical engineering
Experience and Knowledge:
* Essential:
Experience in the engineering sector (absence of experience indicates 'Junior Proposals Engineer')
Experience in sales or marketing (absence of experience indicates 'Junior Proposals Engineer')
* Desirable:
Experience in one of the following industries: oil and gas, offshore, chemical/petrochemical, energy/power generation
Experience working with rotating machinery, such as pumps, compressors, mechanical seals, and their support systems
Experience working with fluid handling equipment, such as piping, valves, pressure vessels, heat exchangers, and measuring instruments for flow, level, pressure, and temperature
Understanding of manufacturing processes
Understanding of potentially explosive atmospheres (ATEX)
Understanding of API standards
Knowledge of materials (irons and steels) and their suitability for different applications
Understanding of chemical compatibility of different metals and non-metals
Understanding of sound and vibration, including acoustic attenuation
Knowledge of gases and thermodynamics, including moles, molar mass, gas laws, vapour pressure, dew point, heat capacity, latent heat of vaporisation, enthalpy, and types of compression
Location: Stonehouse, Gloucester (TOWARDS THE 3 OR 4 QUARTER OF 2025 MY CLIENT WILL BE RELOCATING TO CENTRAL GLOUCESTER - GLOUCESTER QUAYS)
