How will you make an impact in this role? • Lead Amex’s EU AI Act Centre of Excellence (CoE), including the development and implementation of comprehensive AI governance frameworks to ensure compliance with the EU AI Act, integrating technical, governance and legal requirements and signposting other applicable regulations. • Oversee the full AI system lifecycle to ensure Amex’s AI systems deployed in the EU meet regulatory requirements and perform as intended. • Act as primary point of contact for internal stakeholders with regards to EU AI Act compliance and 1st line-of-defence AI governance. • Guide owners across Amex’s business units and functional teams through AI governance frameworks to ensure compliance with the EU AI Act. Facilitate collaboration and alignment with 2nd line-of-defence teams (e.g. AI Risk, Model Risk). • Ensure outcomes of the EU AI Act governance process, including AI system risk classifications as per the Act’s definitions, are appropriately documented and maintained within a system of record. • Assist the business with preparing for AI-related exams, compliance tests and internal audits and notify and engage 2nd line colleagues during such reviews. • Stay up to date on trends and advances in industry developments relating to AI and AI risk management and work with business leaders to evaluate, recommend, and implement opportunities to enhance the business/legal entity AI risk profile and management practices. • Partner with Legal Counsel’s Office on AI regulation developments, including monitoring the release of further EU AI Act regulatory guidance. Collaborate with the legal team to translate into Amex processes and procedures. • Proactively engage and partner with stakeholders across the business to educate teams on the EU AI Act and their roles and responsibilities, and industry AI Risk management practices via the creation of learning and development programs and guidance material. • Provide transparency to Business Unit/Legal Entity through accurate reporting and metrics on risks, issues and/or control deficiencies, results of self-assessments, control environment, tests, audits, and external events that would impact the Business Unit/Legal Entity’s ability to comply with EU AI Act requirements. • Develop and nurture the great talent within the EU AI Act CoE team and the company to create a pipeline of future talent and provide strong focus on professional development including ensuring colleagues remain upskilled in the EU AI Act and wider AI governance • Represent American Express in relevant external forums to share insights, learn from global best practices and partner with Government Affairs to provide inputs during regulatory consultation activities. Minimum Qualifications • 5-8 years of experience in non-financial risk management, compliance, or a related discipline. • Proven AI governance and compliance expertise: deep and continuously updated understanding of AI governance frameworks and compliance requirements, particularly in relation to EU AI Act. • Hands-on experience establishing and overseeing AI governance & compliance policies, controls and workflows. • Expertise in risk identification, assessment, and mitigation for AI systems. • Ability to build effective relationships with and influence senior management and stakeholders to drive an effective operating model and manage risks. • Makes collaboration essential – seeks out and values the input of others, encourages a collaborative culture for their team, entertains new ideas with an open mindset. • Strong analytical capabilities, confident in identifying/solving complex operational challenges and control oriented. • Strong English language verbal and written communication skills, with an ability to craft messages that clearly and succinctly communicate key messages for internal and external audiences at all levels of the organization. • Ability to cooperate seamlessly cross-function and cross-border, building strong relationships & establishing trust to enable a cohesive approach to AI governance and EU AI Act compliance. • Able to think critically and use data-driven insights to solve problems and achieve desired outcomes. • Understanding of machine learning, data science and AI technologies to facilitate conversations with technical colleagues • Advanced degree or equivalent experience in a relevant field (e.g., AI, Data Science, Law, Cyber Security, Policy, Risk Management). Preferred Qualifications • In-depth understanding of machine learning, data science and AI technologies. • Familiarity with AI governance platforms and tooling • Financial industry experience, with knowledge of relevant industry regulations. • Relevant industry certifications, incl.
