A primary teaching assistant (TA) role is an excellent opportunity to make a real difference in children’s education, drawing on your commitment to developing pupil learning ability and knowledge accessibility. TAs have two main roles: supporting children’s learning and supporting the main class teacher.
Working closely with class teachers, you will help children expand their knowledge and play a positive role in school life. You will utilise your knowledge, creativity, and communication skills to assist children in understanding the information presented. You will provide varying levels of individual attention, reassurance, and support with learning tasks appropriate to children’s individual needs.
As a TA, every day is different, and you will enjoy variety and a challenge. As a TA, you will be:
* Setting up equipment and preparing the classroom for lessons, tidying up afterwards, and helping with displays.
* Providing support to children who need additional help with their work.
* Helping pupils develop independent learning skills, manage their own learning, and prioritise their time.
* Providing one-to-one and small group support to children who need it.
* Listening to children read.
* Assisting the teacher with marking and record-keeping.
* Looking after children’s pastoral needs, including dealing with playground accidents and caring for upset children.
* Helping with school trips, events, and outings.
You will need relevant experience and/or qualifications in working with primary-aged children as you will be working under the supervision of the class teacher and/or SENDCo to support whole class learning, small targeted groups, and/or individuals.
You should have:
* NVQ/VRQ Level 3 Teaching Assistant Qualification.
* Knowledge of Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) and Additional Learning Needs (ALN).
* A good understanding of the emotional needs of children with autism, ADHD, and attachment issues.
The post holder may be required to undertake manual handling and physically demanding work.
