Clinical Healthcare Support Worker (Band 3)- Ward 2B (34.5 hours a week)
The Trust provides acute hospital services from two large district general hospitals, Cheltenham General Hospital and Gloucestershire Royal Hospital. Gloucestershire Hospitals is the major provider of secondary care services in the area.
Ward 2B is very proud of the service we provide. We specialise in Head and Neck care along with Maxo facial surgery. We aim to maintain high quality care by continuing to employ motivated and enthusiastic healthcare assistants who will work alongside the multi-disciplinary team to contribute to the delivery of care to acutely ill patients and their families.

Main duties of the job
As a HCA working within a ward setting, the expectation is that, with adequate training, supervision and assessment, you will be able to:
1. Participate as a member of the multidisciplinary team providing the highest standard of patient care.
2. Undertake specific delegated tasks following the appropriate training and competency level e.g. patient observations and patient personal hygiene.
3. Adhere to all Trust policies and procedures.
4. Assist patients with hygiene and nutritional needs as directed by a registered nurse or dietitian.
5. Undertake clinical activities, following training and assessment, as directed by the Registered Nurse.
6. Help and support team with aiding to rehabilitate patients with the activities of daily living.
7. Report any change in the condition of patients to the nurse in charge.
8. Assist registered nurse to prepare patients for transfer or discharge home including correct documentation of property.
9. Assist caring for dying patients and their relatives with the supervision of the registered nurse and assist with last office.

Job responsibilities
Planning and Organisational Skills
1. Contribute to maintaining a suitable environment to meet the needs of the patients.
2. Undertake housekeeping activities such as: bed making, disposal of linen, cleaning, tidying and re-stocking equipment, in accordance with Infection control policy.
3. Maintain continuity of supplies by being aware of products commonly used by doctors and nurses in patient treatments, assist in units stock control system.
4. Process, set up and check unit equipment, following training and assessment, as directed by the Registered nurse.
5. Re-equip, clean and re-stock bed areas post discharge of patients.
6. Collect, clean and test equipment as instructed. Keep equipment storage areas safe and in good order and report any damage to the nurse in charge.
Health and Safety
1. Comply with Trust and Departmental policies and procedures e.g. Health and Safety at Work Act (1974), Manual Handling, clinical equipment competency, risk management, Data Protection Acts and patient confidentiality at all times.
2. Report personal sickness to the Nurse in Charge.
3. Report near misses and untoward incidents, complaints, clinical emergencies, injury or medicine administration errors as detailed in the departmental and Trust protocols.
4. Maintain and contribute to the development of standards of practice.
5. Ensure a smart, professional image that adheres to Trust policy.
6. Undertake all mandatory training.
7. Ensure the Trust's infection control policy is adhered to.
Physical, Mental & Emotional Effort & Working Conditions
1. Utilise recognised manual handling techniques and guidelines.
2. Frequently manoeuvre patients/objects over 15 kg using appropriate aids.
3. Frequent exposure to unpleasant working conditions and follow policies and procedures pertaining to bodily fluids, infection control, infestations and COSHH regulations.
4. Frequent exposure to distressing and emotionally demanding situations involving patients and relatives.
5. Some exposure to patients displaying verbal and physical abuse.
6. Ability to work where the work pattern may be unpredictable with quick changing workload and patient dependency.
7. Ongoing requirement to deliver fundamentals of care whilst working under pressure in an ever-changing and challenging environment.
8. May be expected to work in confined spaces.
