The Science Museum Group (SMG) is the largest and most complex museum estate in the country which also houses a scientific collection of international significance. The SMG Estate team has responsibility for ensuring that all sites meet their legislative and operational requirements, are consistently well maintained, efficiently run and capable of delivering an excellent experience to staff, volunteers and visitors.
'Resilience' and 'Sustainability' are two of SMG's strategic objectives which link directly to the estate. A new, 10-year estate strategy has also been approved in 2024 which sets out four key areas of development. These are designed to ensure our portfolio of estate assets are; professionally managed, efficiently operated, intelligently controlled and sustainable, both financially and environmentally.
We are now recruiting for a Contract Manager to join on a full-time basis, working 35 hours per week, on a permanent contract. This role can be based at any of the following SMG sites: National Railway Museum in York, Science and Industry Museum in Manchester, National Science and Media Museum in Bradford, Science Museum in London or the Science and Innovation Park in Wroughton, Swindon.
About the role
As Contract Manager you will ensure that all contract requirements are robustly scoped and documented, working with procurement and legal teams to prepare necessary tendering and contractual documents. You will also ensure the delivery of contracts against SLAs and KPIs, providing reports and ensuring actions are completed.
You will establish appropriate internal governance and an accountable cycle of reporting which meets all performance and H&S obligations. In addition to reviewing all Estates-led contracts and ensuring they are relevant, fit-for-purpose and delivering value for money.
You will support the strategic development of a Group wide "contracts service" acting as an expert advisor in specifying Facilities Management (FM) contracted services, amending or establishing policy to ensure appropriate governance is in place, and both contracts and services are compliant with all relevant legislation.
About you
Joining us, you will have experience of negotiating and managing complex FM contracts with a value of at least £500k, coupled with your experience of procurement in the public sector. You will be organised with a proactive approach to problem-solving and an ability to work well as part of a team.
Crucially, you will have good financial and commercial awareness and effective leadership, influencing and communication skills, with a proven ability to work effectively with internal stakeholders, subject specialists and external consultants or contactors.
