Who We Are
As NHS Scotland's unique provider of a national tele-health and tele-care service, we are responsible for the delivery of health advice and information by telephone and online services to the population of Scotland 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. NHS 24 is a patient-focused service providing the people of Scotland with triage, advice, guidance, referral and information on health and healthcare services.
We have five regional centres - Aberdeen, Dundee, South Queensferry, Cardonald and Clydebank. NHS 24 supports hybrid working, and this post can be based within any NHS 24 regional centres. The successful candidate must be within commuting distance to a regional centre to attend if required and must also be able to travel to other regional centres when requested to attend meetings, undertake training and any other activities.
The Role.....
The post holder, as the lead expert, will take a professional and strategic lead on all key areas of psychological provision within the organisation, influencing and advising on education, training and providing visible leadership. The post holder will lead and provide clinical governance and oversee the effective delivery of professional clinical supervision for psychological interventions and therapies and provide expert advice/consultation to continue to develop a psychologically informed workforce.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Represent NHS 24 on National forums and programme boards including HOPS.
2. Develop and lead on a new national pathways to offer the public access to evidence based digital psychological therapies and early intervention video enabled therapies.
3. Accountable for high level strategic decisions, whilst providing expert advice for decision making to the Executive Management Team.
4. This role will encompass both operational and professional aspects of leadership for all applied psychological professionals and contribute to planning across all aspects of NHS 24 and links to the wider system.
5. Provide expertise to management on appropriate policy, systems and programmes to promote effective delivery and quality of all psychologically based interventions.
6. Provide specialist psychological research expertise to the service. Provide expert teaching, training and supervision where appropriate.
7. Advise on the provision of training, or for advising service management on appropriate external training, to all staff within the service involved in the delivery of psychological based interventions.
8. Manage the psychological resources available to the service in terms of psychology materials employed in the assessment and the treatment of patients.
9. Be a national lead working in partnership with Scottish Government and Heads of Psychology Services to support all key strategic agendas.
The successful applicant will:
1. Demonstrates advanced theoretical and practical knowledge as an experienced consultant psychologist which requires to be obtained through:
2. Honours degree in Psychology at 2:1 or above
3. Post-graduate doctoral level training in clinical psychology or equivalent
4. Post qualification training in two or more distinct psychological therapies and lifespan developmental psychology.
5. Post-doctoral training in additional specialised areas of psychological practice of an extensive and substantial nature
6. Eligibility for registration as Chartered Psychologist by the British Psychological Society and registered with HCPC.
7. Evidence of leadership of large teams.
8. Training in clinical practice supervision.
9. Significant supervised clinical psychology practice experience in NHS or equivalent by a suitably qualified Applied Psychologist.
10. Experience of working with a wide variety of client groups, across the whole life course and presenting in a range of clinical severity across the full range of care settings
11. Experience of exercising full clinical responsibility for clients' psychological care and treatment, both as an independent practitioner and also within the context of a multi-disciplinary care plan.
12. Experience of teaching, training and/or professional and clinical supervision.
13. Doctoral level knowledge of research design and methodology, including complex multivariate data analysis as practiced within the field of clinical psychology.
14. Knowledge of legislation and its implications for both clinical practice and professional management in relation to the client group and mental health.
15. A high level ability to communicate effectively at both a written and oral level complex, highly technical and clinically sensitive information to clients, their families, carers and a wide range of lay and professional persons within and outside the NHS.
16. Skills in providing consultation to other professional and non-professional groups.
Benefits:
NHS 24 offers a complete benefits package, with a permanent contract on Band 8D £99,534 - £103,795. Placement on salary scale is dependent on confirmation of previous relevant NHS service.
