A personal assistant is needed to support a confident, sociable, and witty eleven-year-old autistic boy living in the Penzance area.
He would like someone with whom he can build a relationship and who can provide him with some one-to-one support in the local community.
He has a big heart, a love for animals, and enjoys making new friends, although he sometimes needs support with self-regulation if he becomes upset. Gaming is a huge part of his life, so a shared enthusiasm for gaming is essential to make a meaningful connection.
He loves the beach, loves swimming, and enjoys visiting parks. Getting outdoors and active are some of his favourite pastimes, so he would appreciate someone who shares these interests.
Duties would also include practicing life skills such as using public transport in order to increase his independence as he grows older.
The rate of pay starts at £12.50 per hour with potential increase based on skills and experience.
6 hours per week are available, with flexible hours to accommodate the applicant's schedule. Weekend and school holiday availability will be required.
Previous experience working with young people, particularly those with autism, is a distinct advantage. A driving licence and access to a vehicle are desirable but not essential.
The successful applicant will be employed under a private arrangement with the family, and not be employed or carry out work for Cornwall Council.
