Start date can be flexible for the successful applicant(s) and further start dates may be available in 2026. About us The Department of Thoracic Surgery within Guys' and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust is one of the largest specialist thoracic centres in the UK, performing approximately 1500 surgical procedures per year of varying case mix and complexity. The majority of referrals to the thoracic centre are tertiary in nature, with a mixture of both cancer and non-cancer cases. The appointee will join a team of 8 thoracic surgery consultants, an associate specialist, and a team pf specialist registrars / clinical fellows, nurse practitioners and junior clinical fellows. They will receive training within the ward, clinic and theatre environments, and also gain experience of thoracic multidisciplinary working. The post holder will participate in clinical and other service activities in order to ensure a high standard of patient care and to assist with service development. Desirable Royal College of Surgeons membership (MRCS) or equivalent. Clinical Experience Essential At least 12 months cardiothoracic surgery experience (at registrar level). Desirable More than 12 months experience of general thoracic surgery at registrar level or equivalent with experience of complex open and VATS surgery. ATLS, ALS or equivalent. Evidence of achievements contributing to patient care (clinical audit). Knowledge & Skills Essential Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing. Experience of leading a surgical team. Understanding of the principles of medical research and statistics. Desirable Peer-reviewed publications or higher research degree relevant to cardiothoracic surgery. Management training. Experience of working in a multidisciplinary setting.
