1.0 SUMMARY
The Managing Director (MD) of Data Physics UK, the subsidiary, has a range of responsibilities that align with both the legal and operations frameworks of the UK and the company’s global interests. The successful candidate is a dependable professional with excellent diligence, able to manage multiple priorities, excel at planning, and have strong people skills.
2.0 DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Strategic Leadership and Direction:
· Formulating Subsidiary Strategy: The MD is responsible for aligning the subsidiary's strategy with the parent company’s goals. This involves defining objectives, identifying growth opportunities, and setting the long-term direction of the business.
· Business Development: The MD leads efforts to expand the company’s presence in the UK market, including market analysis, partnerships, and exploring new business opportunities.
Operational Oversight:
· Day-to-Day Operations: Managing the overall operations of the subsidiary, ensuring that the business functions efficiently and effectively in alignment with corporate goals.
· Resource Allocation: Overseeing the allocation of resources (financial, human, technological) to various projects and departments.
· Risk Management: Implementing risk management frameworks to ensure compliance with both UK laws and internal company policies.
Legal and Regulatory Compliance:
· Adhering to UK Laws: The MD is responsible for ensuring the subsidiary complies with UK corporate laws, such as the Companies Act 2006, which governs financial reporting, tax obligations, and employment laws.
· Reporting to Regulatory Bodies: Filing statutory documents (annual returns, financial statements) with Companies House and maintaining good governance practices. Respond to queries for the UK statutory financial audit.
· Health and Safety: Ensuring the subsidiary complies with UK health and safety laws and standards.
Financial Management:
· Budgeting and Financial Control: Managing the subsidiary’s financial health by overseeing budgeting, cash flow, and financial forecasting.
· Providing regular financial and operational reports to the headquarters, including profit-and-loss analysis, operational metrics, and market insights.
· Complete MOD quarterly and year end reporting outlining the overall company performance, financial information, and other key performance indicators (KPIs).
Corporate Governance:
· Acting as a liaison between the subsidiary and the parent company, attending management meetings, and making key decisions in line with corporate governance practices.
Team Management and Development:
· Manage staff contracts, pensions, holiday schedules, company car allowances, and pay.
· Manage UNUM Death in Service and UNUM Sickness Insurance benefits.
· Leading the UK Team: Managing and developing a local team, ensuring they are aligned with the company’s goals. This includes recruitment, training, and performance management.
· Fostering Corporate Culture: The MD is responsible for ensuring that the company culture is in line with both the UK market and the values of the parent company.
Stakeholder Management:
· Client Relations: Ensuring the company maintains strong relationships with its UK customers and clients, and providing leadership in key negotiations and partnerships.
· Supplier and Vendor Management: Overseeing relationships with key suppliers, ensuring that supply chain activities support business objectives, and managing customs and export requirements.
Sales/Orders:
· Review and sign off on Non-Disclosure Agreements (NDA) contracts.
· Review and sign off on Engineering, Procurement, Export Construction, and Installation contracts.
Cultural and Market Adaptation:
· Local Market Understanding: The MD must ensure that the subsidiary is adapted to the local UK market, including understanding customer needs, regulatory environments, and competitive landscapes.
3.0 SKILLS AND SPECIFICATIONS
· Strong technical skills
· Excellent communicator with ability to grasp complex ideas then break into reasonable elements
· Excellent analytical skills with ability to craft creative solutions
· Proficient in ERP systems (Netsuite preferred) and MS Office (Excel, Word, Outlook)
· Planning and scheduling
4.0 EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS
· 3-5 years of experience in general management of a business unit of international manufacturing company
· A bachelor’s degree in business management or related field
· Knowledge and experience of UK pay and labor laws
· 5+ years ISO-9000 preferred
· Lean Six Sigma Certification preferred
· Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
· Excellent management skills with the proven ability to meet deadlines
· Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

6.0 PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to lift up to 50 pounds, stand, walk, talk, hear, and sit. Prolonged periods standing and up to four hours per shift sitting and working on a computer. The employee frequently is required to use hands to handle and/or feel objects and use hands and arms to reach objects or materials, carry objects and small packages and operate office equipment. Must be able to work in hot and cold climates and in a factory environment.
7.0 WORK ENVIRONMENT
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts and risk of electrical shock and vibration. The noise level in the production area is usually loud and the noise levels in most office areas are generally quiet.
