An exciting opportunity has become available to join Boeing Defence United Kingdom (BDUK) as the Head of Commercial for the Digital business unit. This role is full-time based in Bristol with hybrid working available. This particular role is in a non-manager job code but assumes full management responsibilities except for the physical system administration of people management as your ‘direct reports’ will report in the system to the Commercial Director.
About the role:
The Digital Head of Commercial in BDUK leads and is accountable for management of the BDUK Digital Commercial Team (circa 6 people), reporting to the BDUK Commercial Director and working within the Digital leadership team, acting as a business partner. You will be accountable for the Digital portfolio of contracts and will support business growth and strategy. The portfolio today primarily comprises the Bridging the Gap Single Source contract (delivering support services and transformation to UKMoD information systems for financial and inventory management) and the Gladiator contract, won in competition to deliver a synthetic training system and ongoing support. Future growth in Digital comprises extension & follow-on contracts for related services as well as export opportunities.
Principal technical responsibilities of the role include reviewing statements of work, terms and conditions, cost estimates and the determination of profit or earnings objectives, performing and approving risk assessments to balance risks and opportunities, and reviewing and approving proposals and other agreements with outside parties. The Head of Commercial has a full understanding of programme & financial performance of the various contracts and operates as the Commercial leader within the business unit, acting as the Digital Commercial Team’s point of escalation for resolution of issues with customer commercial counterparts and prior to issues being elevated to the Commercial Director. The Head of Commercial both participates on and leads (subject to delegations) bid/no-bid and make/buy boards and provides business and financial guidance to programmes and functions. Technical expertise/leadership is required in the following areas; Contract Formation, Contract Management Systems, Contract Structure Knowledge, Estimating Methods, Proposal Processes, Risk Management and Mitigation and Business Case Development.
The Digital Head of Commercial serves as the senior customer point of contact for all Digital portfolio topics and issues and will have a deep understanding of UK and UK MoD contract terms and conditions with the ability to communicate contractual requirements both internally and externally to the organisation. As part of the BDUK Commercial Leadership Team this role participates in development of Digital Commercial performance priorities & objectives and subsequent performance objectives for individuals within the team, leading people development activities for all team members and participating in functional evaluations and discussions on all related topics, supporting functional improvements and participating in ensuring all matters of compliance are undertaken by the assigned team to assure performance.

Position responsibilities:
* Responsibility to set and manage performance of the Commercial objectives of the Digital Commercial Team
* Fully understand BDUK Commercial policies/procedures and ensure compliance with Corporate Policies/Procedures and all legislation, regulations and standards applicable to your contracts / proposals
* Submit offers and contractually commit the company within permitted delegated authority
* Review Statements of Work, terms and conditions, cost estimates and the determination of profit or earnings objectives
* Provide leadership, guidance and help needed to your team as required to support their individual development and in meeting business needs for resolution of actions
* Act as escalation point to resolve issues and deliver creative commercial solutions to complex problems to meet business objectives
* Commercial support to emerging programmes/campaigns Review and approve proposals
* Review and approve agreements with outside parties
* Perform and approve contractual risk assessments to balance risk and opportunities
* Both participating on and leading bid/no-bid and make/buy boards, as well as establishing processes internally with the Commercial Team as well as other programmes or functions
* Coach and mentor employees and Team Leads, as well as providing development opportunities and support to expand the capabilities of the team

Preferred qualifications and experience:
* Working experience 10+ years within multinational global company environment and UK defence expertise are desirable.
* Excellent customer relationship management

* WCC (formerly IACCM) qualification and/or experience in associated role
* Knowledge and skilled in defence contracting and terms & conditions – drafting, interpretation and negotiating
* Strong understanding of Single Source Contract Regulations
