Job overview
Exciting 12 month fixed term or secondment opportunity. Do you have a passion for Cancer Nursing and Systemic Anti-Cancer Therapy (SACT)? Are you an experienced nurse looking to try something new? Do you enjoy supporting and teaching others? We are looking for an experienced registered nurse to join our team as Clinical Practice Educator for Oncology/haematology and SACT training. To ensure that our Cancer Centre is maintaining the highest standards of competencies, skills, and knowledge in the delivering of SACT.
You'll need to be an enthusiastic individual with an interest in education and you will be able to develop teaching skills, whilst having a positive impact on patient care and experience.
You will be based at Brighton & Haywards Heath main hospitals supporting the Haematology & Oncology wards, SACT units, some cross-site working, and cover across all cancer sites at UHSx.
Main duties of the job
* To create, prioritise and evaluate an annual education strategy for the Oncology/Haematology departments that supports people and service development and responds to NHS changes.
* To work collaboratively with the Unit Managers to ensure that staff receive necessary training and education relevant to their roles.
* To help identify learning needs at an individual and team level.
* To signpost staff to relevant learning opportunities.
* To support all levels of clinical nursing staff, from Band 2 to Band 7.
* To arrange and deliver regular study days e.g. Annual SACT Study Day.
* To maintain a register of SACT and telephone triage competence.
* To offer pastoral care, for example, through the use of coaching.
* Work alongside Band 7 educators within the division and other mentors, devising action plans for novice nurses to teach complex chemotherapy regimens and skills and experienced nurses CNS skills.
* Work alongside current educators to streamline teaching opportunities cross-site and support in-house courses developed by the cancer division.

Qualifications and Experience
* Registered Nurse
* Experience in cancer nursing and SACT passport qualification
* Chemotherapy module or equivalent “in service training” course
* Up to date and evidenced based knowledge of current clinical and professional issues
* Evidence of service development and implementing change
* Teaching experience
* Evidence of quality improvement initiative
* Masters or working towards this / equivalent experience
* Cancer or Haematology Nursing Pathway or equivalent
