Job overview
To work actively in all routine aspects of technologist work. The Senior Assistant Clinical Technologist will spend approximately 80% of their time performing the acquisition of a range of routine patient images using a gamma or PET/CT camera. The post holder will be required to work without supervision but always with access to a qualified technologist for advice/guidance. They will not be responsible for modifications to standard procedure, end points of investigations nor the preparation or administration of radiopharmaceuticals. They may be requested to assist in more complex imaging procedures under the direct supervision of a qualified technologist. The post holder will be required to perform patient preparation and the cannulation of patients prior to some imaging investigations.
The post holder will be expected to perform work in the radio-pharmacy on a rota basis as required.
Main duties of the job
Although the Senior Assistant Clinical Technologist performs work primarily supporting patient imaging, it is expected that they are able to work in all areas of the department and be actively involved in all routine aspects of technical work required for imaging, non-imaging, radio-pharmacy and in-vitro laboratory duties. They will assist the multidisciplinary team of qualified staff to ensure the provision of a high quality and efficient Nuclear Medicine Service.
The post holder will work to agreed departmental protocols.
Other duties will include the disposal of radioactive waste, environment monitoring for radioactive contamination, stock checking and maintenance, preparation of work areas and equipment, and the pipetting of patient blood samples in the in-vitro laboratory.
