Job Advert
Mencap have an exciting opportunity in Our Active Community programme for a Community Partner to work across two coastal communities - Worthing (Sussex) and Thanet (Kent)
This role is a combination of working out in the local communities and being home based. It is a full time (37.5 hrs per week) fixed term contract until April 2027. We are happy to be flexible with working patterns so let us know if you would like to discuss job share or part-time opportunities.
We are looking for someone with knowledge of the sport and wellbeing sector, who enjoys getting people active within communities and has the mindset for community-led ways of working. Working alongside Sport England as a System Partner, Mencap’s vision is for people with learning disabilities, and the communities in which they live, to be more physically active, happy and healthy. The successful candidate will join an existing team of four Community Partners who are working in seven other communities across England to help us achieve this vision.
As a Community Partner you will work collaboratively with people from Worthing and Thanet to develop the capacity of these communities. You will ensure the work is co-produced with the community and especially by people with a learning disability. You will help unite people around a shared vision and goals, create a development plan and support the creation of new ideas and local solutions to enable more active communities. These solutions will build on existing strengths and address local priorities.
You will have the benefit of working with a range of stakeholders who are already engaged in this way of working in both Worthing and Thanet, maintaining these relationships while also cultivating new ones. You will need to communicate easily and effectively with people from different backgrounds connecting with them and facilitating partnership work. You will work alongside Community Connectors, who will have a learning disability, and who will live in the communities you are working in.
Day to day, you can expect to be out and about in the communities and to be desk-based, capturing what we are learning and supporting the wider development of this national capacity-building programme. Working across two communities you will be great at managing your time and willing to travel as and when required. You will collaborate as part of the Community Partner team regularly.
At Mencap, we value a diverse and inclusive workplace and we intentionally plan for the success of our colleagues in everything we do. We welcome applications from everyone, so come as you are and join us. Together we are Mencap!
