Duties of the post: - To staff outpatient clinics which will included new, review and urgent referrals - Preparation of patients for theatre and post-operative care - Dealing with both routine and emergency attenders - Assisting in theatre and post-operative care - Dependant on experience will undertake certain surgical procedures and minor operations independently. - Be involved in complex clinical, patient management problems and inter-disciplinary planning treatment -Participation in duty rota. 1:10 as part of the middle grade rota - Endoscopy - training can be provided to JAG certification if required. - A face-to-face handover of care must take place at the start and end of the day, with written and verbal communication about all general surgery inpatients. -Completion of electronic discharge summaries is mandatory for all patients on the day of discharge. - Help develop new services where needed. - Be expected to take an active part in continuing medical education and undergraduate teaching. - Full engagement with Clinical Audit and Clinical Governance is required. The remainder of the appointee's professional time will be deployed flexibly on other clinical duties, administration, teaching, research, clinical audit and other duties (details of this part of the job plan arrangements are to be agreed with the successful applicant when in post)
