To demonstrate a high standard of practice in assessing, implementing and evaluating patient care To competently and safely administer cytotoxic chemotherapy/ immunotherapy and related treatments within a busy day unit setting To be involved in service development in collaboration with Department manager/Junior sisters, contributing to the delivery and development of SACT services and delivery pathways To promote and engage in a nurse-led environment ensuring that care is delivered as per trust policies and procedures and in accordance with evidence based practice in line with agreed national standards for clinical practice. To participate in teaching, education and training (within the unit, trust wide, university and primary care) Be aware of budget and resource management within the unit Professional To adhere to the guidelines within the NMC Code of Professional Conduct To carry out agreed procedures and treatments in accordance with roles related to NMC Scope of Practice. Take responsibility for own professional development in collaboration with Department Manager/Junior sisters. Attend mandatory training Attend ward meetings on a regular basis Clinical Responsibilities To assess individual care needs, develop, implement and evaluate care given to patients receiving SACT and supportive treatments, in conjunction with the multidisciplinary team. Provide safe and effective review of patients undergoing SACT following agreed departmental policies and procedures, adhering to the Northern Cancer Alliance standards at all times To undertake assessment of patients who have self-referred to the unit with associated SACT toxicities Have expert skills at intravenous cannulation, venepuncture, CVAD care To be able to competently and safely administer SACT with Northern Cancer Alliance protocols and procedures, or be willing to work towards Shares expert knowledge with other team members Educational Responsibilities To promote a learning environment that facilitates the development of all staff, including in the induction of new staff members To assist in the facilitation of teaching and clinical assessment of pre and post registration nurses and health care assistants, promoting a positive experience within the department To be involved with the dissemination of information regarding new or updated clinical practices, guidelines and policies to all ward nursing staff. To participate in training needs analysis, risk assessment within the department, according to trust policy.
