Job Overview
The Lead Supplier Quality Assurance Engineer will be responsible for assuring the quality of components and subassemblies delivered from our global supply chain, as well as working closely with other team members to improve suppliers' quality and delivery performance.
You will provide critical quality assurance support to new product introduction in the supply chain by monitoring and reporting on the suppliers' APQP programmes. You will create and maintain inspection plans for incoming components, review/approve suppliers' component PPAP and PSW submissions, and ensure records are kept of these approvals.
Key Responsibilities
1. Evaluate the capability of new and existing component vendors to ensure defect-free component production at projected volumes.
2. Coordinate the flawless launch of new products from the supply chain.
3. Develop under-performing suppliers through collaborative improvement activities to reduce the risk of production shortages and line stops.
4. Promptly review and approve PPAPs, maintain records, and update departmental KPIs.
5. Organize internal/external measurements and data analysis (part and process) as necessary to validate PPAPs.
6. Create and maintain inspection plans for incoming parts.
7. Request and expedite supplier 8D reports for nonconforming parts.
8. Lead supplier root cause analysis as required; verify effectiveness of actions.
9. Act as Supplier Development Engineer when required, collaborating with Clients Systems Team and selected suppliers to deliver expected Quality levels.
10. Ensure that the part and process development uses tools such as DFMEA, PFMEA, Measurement System Analysis, Value Stream Analysis, Control Plan, and work instructions.
11. Represent Quality for the business within the supplier base through strong leadership, coaching, and supporting engagement.
12. Drive and influence internal and external stakeholders to achieve the company QCD objectives.
Qualifications & Experience
1. Engineering degree and/or a recognized Quality Management qualification.
2. A qualified ISO 9001 auditor, preferably lead assessor.
3. Previous SQ experience in automotive manufacturing or a similar industry.
4. Experience in NPI and developing/managing suppliers to deliver quality requirements through the product life cycle.
5. Ability to lead, influence, and support; challenge with a positive attitude.
6. Strong negotiating and communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively.
7. Working knowledge of IATF 16949 and Core Tools.
8. Experience in quality tools and methods, including but not limited to Global 8D, Ishikawa, 5-Why, Pareto, etc.
9. Conversant with metrology, inspection methods and equipment, as well as a working knowledge of GD&T.
10. Able to correctly interpret 3D CAD and 2D drawings.
11. Ability to present data accurately and effectively.
12. Planning and prioritizing activities with the ability to operate autonomously.
13. Able to travel at short notice within the UK or worldwide to suppliers.
14. Full clean driving license.
