Tarmac is recruiting for an experienced Works Supervisor - Highways to join our fantastic team working on the North Midlands / Midlands project of works. The role is based from our Tarmac Boroughbridge Depot, and you will be required to travel across the assigned region depending on current works requirements. The role is easily commutable from Harrogate, York, Leeds, Ripon, North Allerton, Thirsk, Shipley, Sowerby, Knaresborough, Wetherby, Catterick, and surrounding areas.

Role Responsibility
As the Works Supervisor - Highways, you will be responsible for the successful delivery of Surfacing matters on behalf of Tarmac to our clients on whose contract/contracts we are operating. This is to ensure their objectives and targets are achieved, leading to the successful overall delivery of the projects.
You will also manage the teams on site (either internal or external providers) to support the best possible commercial result for the projects and successfully manage any challenge process/processes which Tarmac’s clients may possess. Additionally, you will also deputise for the Works Manager in their absence.
Other responsibilities for this role will include (not exhaustive):
* Ensure through regular Employee Engagements with the team that the workforce is checked for compliance with Tarmac's Policies and Procedures.
* Carry out site briefing prior to works commencing and where authorised changes occur.
* Ensure Procedures are adhered to, including hot works and excavation works.
* Ensure SSOW procedures are followed and report back on any failures, providing robust records for review on works completed.
* Overall supervision of the works on site, including subcontractors, ensuring any CDM regulations (principle contractor responsibilities) are being adhered to across all works.
* Investigate incidents and accidents when they occur, providing details within the Tarmac reporting matrix timescales.
* Raise awareness of the importance of Safety Observations and ensure the reporting process is followed by all.
* Assist in managing requirements of 'O Licence' through regular checks of vehicle check sheets and liaison with Drivers.
* Work with the Transport Manager to ensure compliance with vehicle testing and servicing.
* Oversee the external works and assist in the management of those works through scoping and programming internal labour and external suppliers, along with assisting in the pricing of external works.
* Carry out Supervisors Checks both onsite and within the Depot, ensuring Depot standards are adhered to through monthly statutory checks and ad-hoc inspections.
* Prepare Job Briefing Packs along with the Works Manager.
* Ensure all time, plant, and material sheets are completed and forwarded to the commercial team for payment.
* Identify future lifecycle schemes to be added to the register by providing details of scheme requirements.
The Ideal Candidate
It is preferred that the successful candidate for the role of Works Supervisor - Highways will have the following:
* Experience in a similar role within the Highways / Surfacing industry and knowledge of on-site Health and Safety policies and procedures associated with the role.
* Ability to work independently and as part of a team, providing leadership in the role.
* Good communication skills and the ability to liaise with stakeholders of varying seniority levels.
* Experience in Highways / Surfacing Maintenance at a supervisory level, specifically in surfacing works and construction.
* A certificate in Site Safety Management, CSCS card, and SMSTS certificate – highly beneficial.
* Flexible approach to location and working patterns in accordance with the needs of the business – evenings, weekends, etc. as required.
* First Aid training & Mental Health First Aid Training.
* IOSH training.
