About ICS The Integrated Components and Solutions team offers some of the most exciting engineering roles within the Caterpillar global organisation. Working on the integration of electronic and electrical systems within multiple Caterpillar products provides the opportunity to work with multiple disciplines within the organisation. The integration of the latest Electronics and Electrical technology helps differentiate Caterpillar products from its competitors by enabling exceptional performance and value to the customer. Our engine systems control air and fuel delivery with millisecond precision to maximise performance and minimise exhaust emissions. Our integrated machine systems control all aspects of construction machine operation (engine/transmission or full electric powertrain, hydraulic systems), provide the human-machine interface (operator controls and information displays), and constantly monitor and communicate position, operation, diagnostic and prognostic information to enable machine automation, improved productivity and enhanced serviceability. Job Summary The Integrated Components and Solutions (ICS) division, based in Peterborough (UK), have an exciting opportunity to join the European Machine Systems team, who are responsible for machine control system development for all European designed Caterpillar machines and will be heavily involved in the design and development of the control systems. This position offers the opportunity to work on cutting edge machine control system technology (including electric vehicle platforms). Additional Information Minimum of 3-days per week in the office (will require more site presence during role induction) What You Will Do As a Controls Systems Engineer you will be responsible for development of electro mechanical control strategies using quantitative methods to solve problems for internal and external Caterpillar customers. Responsibilities include: Collecting customer requirements and developing technical specifications for electronic features. Developing electrical system architectures and solutions to meet technical requirements. Verification planning and testing of electronic features utilising HIL test benches and/or machine. Troubleshoot and resolve electronics / control system issues encountered during build and test of products. Contribution to FMEA, functional safety and product compliance reviews. What You Have Strong technical background (good technical degree preferred in mechanical, electronic, electrical, control systems or automotive engineering) although other qualifications / experience will be considered. Embedded Systems: Knowledge of embedded systems and their applications; ability to develop embedded systems with varying levels of complexity to control the operations of the machine it is embedded within. Analytical Thinking: Knowledge of techniques and tools that promote effective analysis; ability to determine the root cause of organisational problems and create alternative solutions that resolve these problems. Communicating Complex Concepts: Knowledge of effective presentation tools and techniques to ensure clear understanding; ability to use summarisation and simplification techniques to explain complex technical concepts in simple, clear language appropriate to the audience. Problem Solving: Knowledge of approaches, tools, techniques for recognising, anticipating, and resolving organisational, operational or process problems; ability to apply knowledge of problem solving appropriately to diverse situations. Technical Troubleshooting: Knowledge of technical troubleshooting approaches, tools and techniques; ability to anticipate, recognize, and resolve technical issues on hardware, software, application or operation.
