Geocomp is seeking a full-time Geotechnical Research, Development, and Production Engineer with a strong geotechnical engineering background, advanced soil laboratory testing, and project management experience to join our team of highly skilled engineers in our Acton, MA headquarters. Job Expectations:
We are seeking candidates who are familiar with emerging trends in geotechnical research, passionate about delivering innovative, value-driven solutions for our clients, and thrive on learning, growing, and collaborating in a dynamic environment. In this role, you will work closely with a team of professionals in our Production, Research, and Development division to enhance existing products and drive the development of new, cutting-edge technologies for geotechnical engineers and laboratory professionals. You will participate in the development of complex geotechnical projects and provide your technical expertise to exceed our clients’ expectations. You will routinely interact or manage relationships with customers, ensure deliverables are on time and within scope and budget, and translate theoretical research into practical solutions, focusing on accuracy, repeatability, and automation.
Required Skills and Experience:
* Master's Degree in Geotechnical Engineering with significant research experience in advanced soil mechanics and laboratory testing; a PhD with a specialization in Unsaturated Soil Mechanics is preferred.
* Hands-on experience with soil testing equipment such as cyclic triaxial and direct/simple shear, resonant column, torsional shear, and bender element systems.
* Knowledge of domestic and international standards for geotechnical testing (ASTM, BS, ISO) and ability to integrate them into R&D and production processes.
* Ability to collaborate with academic institutions, research centers, and industry partners to develop next-generation geotechnical testing solutions.
* Excellent communication skills for presenting complex geotechnical concepts and findings to a multidisciplinary team.
Desired Experience:
* Hands-on experience with prototype development and validation for innovative cyclic and dynamic soil testing geotechnical equipment for applications such as earthquake engineering, foundation design or liquefaction potential studies.
* Proven experimental research background with peer-reviewed publications in unsaturated soil mechanics and/or soil dynamics is highly desirable.
* Participation in large-scale geotechnical research projects focusing on unsaturated soils or cyclic loading behavior.
* Experience in bridging R&D with production by transitioning prototypes into production-ready designs.
* Involvement in calibration, quality control, and system integration for precision manufacturing of geotechnical equipment.
