Brighton College is seeking to appoint a Teacher of Business Studies, to start in September 2025 or January 2026.
THE DEPARTMENT
The department currently consists of 3 members of staff, all with extensive teaching and management experience. The subject is taught throughout years 12 and 13 in classes which generally range in size between 12 and 16. The department follows the AQA syllabus for A-Level, in addition to a small group of Upper Sixth pupils taking the BTEC Level 3 qualification in business in 2025-26. Academic results are excellent, with 50% A*, 85% A*-A and 100% A*-B achieved in 2024.
The current Head of Department has also developed a variety of extension opportunities: pupils have reached the national final of the ICAEW’s BASE competition several times in recent years, Young Enterprise has a growing number of pupils involved and they have reached the Young Enterprise regional finals three times in the last decade with some great companies.
During the course of the academic year, the department runs a number of visits to local businesses, London businesses and a reading trip to a European city. Business professionals and entrepreneurs are regularly invited to speak on a variety of topics.

The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching both A-level and BTEC Business Studies. There may be some scope in teaching Economics too. They will be an outstanding classroom practitioner, able to lead by example. There is also an expectation that all teachers will contribute to the co-curricular life of the school, through the extensive Games programme, and/or through the leadership of one of almost 100 school societies. Candidates are encouraged to point to interests and enthusiasms as part of their application.
All staff have the opportunity to contribute to our super-curricular Masterclass programme; this is a series of sessions focusing on an area of personal academic or cultural interest. These have included subjects such as Magical Realism, Cuisine and Culture and Great Debates in History.
