Applications are invited for the above full time post for this 660 bed acute hospital serving a local population of approximately 400,000. This appointment will be made in accordance with the Consultant Terms and Conditions of Service for Hospital Medical and Dental Staff (England) 2003.
This post is for a full time substantive Consultant in Obstetrics & Gynaecology with a special interest in Obstetrics Scanning.
The main responsibilities of the Consultant will be as follows:
1. Maintenance of the highest clinical standards in the care of all patients presenting to the hospital
2. To share with colleagues the management of Obstetric and Gynaecological patients requiring admission
3. To undertake duties as defined within agreed job plan
4. Teaching and training of intermediate grade and junior medical staff, nursing staff and medical students
5. To actively participate in both departmental and Trust matters concerning clinical governance and audit
6. To have responsibility for and actively participate in continuing professional development (CPD)
7. To participate in on-call rota providing specialist and timely advice
Main duties of the job
This is a substantive post for a Consultant Obstetrician with a special interest in Obstetrics Scanning, to commence as soon as possible. Whilst the focus of the post is High risk, the post holder will be expected to significantly contribute to the preterm clinic service and the Consultant delivery suite Rota. The main responsibilities of the Consultant will be:
8. Provide high quality ANC services within the Trust.
9. Provide consultant presence on delivery suite to maintain 125 hours a week.
10. Provide, with colleagues, Preterm clinic and support the preterm pathway.
11. To take an active part in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and training.
12. To contribute to Resident Obstetric Shifts (usually 42 per year)

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
The job plan will be a prospective agreement that sets out a consultant’s duties, responsibilities and objectives for the coming year. It will cover all aspects of a consultant’s professional practice including clinical work, teaching, research, education and managerial responsibilities. It will provide a clear schedule of commitments, both internal and external. In addition, it will provide personal objectives, including details of links to wider service objectives, and details of the support required by the consultant to fulfil the job plan and the objectives.
A 10 PA week divides into a minimum of 8.5 PAs for clinical activity and a minimum 1.5 PAs for Supporting Professional Activity (SPA) in agreement with the Clinical and Divisional Directors. The Academy of Medical Royal Colleges estimates that 1.5 SPAs per week is the minimum time required for a consultant to meet the needs for CPD for revalidation purposes. CPD activities encompass clinical, personal, professional and academic activities. If required and agreed additional SPA time above 1.5 should be linked to organisational objectives, such as, research, clinical management or medical education roles.The Job plan allocation for Clinical Activity and SPA will be reviewed three months after appointment. A diary exercise will provide evidence of activities. Thereafter review will be annual. This post has the potential to be the lead for Fetal monitoring/ CTG training in the unit in the future.
In addition to the fixed clinical sessions necessary to provide continuous cover in the clinical area, flexible sessions that include time for teaching, administration, management and clinical governance will be discussed and agreed.
The Trust may wish to contract for up to a further 2 PAs to support the provision of extended clinical cover and other supporting professional activities. This will be discussed with the appointees.
The appointment will be subject to full Occupational Health Clearance and Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service check prior to commencement.
The appointee will have Full UK General Medical Council registration at time of application or eligibility to enter on the Specialist Register within 6 months from the time of the interview and hold a Licence to Practice

These will be scheduled prior to the interview date; all shortlisted candidates must attend these appointments.

Essential criteria
13. MBBS or equivalent medical qualification
14. MRCOG or equivalent
15. ATSM in Antenatal Practise / Advanced Labour Ward or equivalent
Desirable criteria
16. A post graduate qualification MSc, MD, PhD, MA or Masters in Obstetric Scanning
17. ATSM in Maternal medicine or equivalent
Registration
Essential criteria
18. Full GMC registration with a Licence to Practice
19. Entry onto the GMC Specialist Register
20. CCT (or within 6 months of receipt of CCT at time of interview)

Clinical Experience
