A rare and challenging opportunity to join this leading international Building Services Consultancy with a proven track record in low energy design, focused on providing excellent design solutions to clients. As the Technical Director, you will be taking a team management and leadership role in the development, design, and coordination of engineering project services.
The Position
1. Carrying out cost and profit diagnosis on projects including feasibility studies and preparation of project fee proposals.
2. Working closely with clients and project teams to establish project requirements.
3. Develop and specify applications of controls, instruments, and operating systems for all building engineering services purposes.
4. Survey, test, and report on existing electrical/mechanical installations.
5. Leadership and hands-on delivery of monitoring of construction and installation on projects.
6. Liaising with existing clients to establish long-term relationships and future upcoming projects.
7. Liaising with future client prospects and general business development.
8. Representing the Company at technical meetings with customers, professional teams, and contractor teams.
9. Carrying out engineering calculations to ensure drawings meet required robust industry and legal standards.
10. Supporting clients in tender and procurement of MEP contractors and MEP equipment.
11. Leading on the coordination of engineering services, together with hands-on delivery of concept and detailed designs.
12. Mentoring and developing younger members of the engineering team.
13. Producing technical white papers to promote the technical capabilities of the business.
14. Surveys and due diligence reports of existing data centres.
15. Presenting technical papers at industry events where the opportunity arises.
16. Taking a holistic view in the selection and application of engineering concepts and solutions.
The Person
1. BSc/BEng in an appropriate engineering discipline/BEng General Building Services or have sufficient equivalent experience.
2. MCIBSE/MIEE or HND/HNC + appropriate experience or equivalent.
3. Chartered Engineer status.
4. Experience of data centre or other mission-critical projects would be a distinct advantage.
5. Significant experience of specification design for a range of building types.
6. Experience of having managed projects abroad (desirable).
7. Sound knowledge & working application of key health and safety issues and legislation.
8. Appreciation & working knowledge of contract and business law.
9. Ability to use IT-based calculation and spreadsheet software.
10. Good understanding of BS standards/UK regulations/codes.
11. Strong presentation skills.
12. Leadership & mentoring skills.
13. Background in consulting or construction preferred.
