Content Writer and Editor - Speech and Language
Location: UK remote (options for office/hybrid working available)
Annual Salary: £25,500 per annum

Hours: 37.5 hours per week (core hours 10am-2pm Monday-Friday)
You’ll be joining a team of passionate teachers working to write and edit Twinkl’s online SaLT content for educators across the UK. The majority of your time will be spent working with Content Writers, Editors, Designers and Illustrators and engaging with product priorities to facilitate the highest possible quality of teacher content for our customers.
Your weekly activities could include:
1. Ideating, researching and creating new resources to support Speech and Language teaching and learning across the curriculum for KS1, KS2, KS3 and KS4;
2. Responding to editorial feedback and working alongside colleagues to elevate a resource to an excellent standard;
3. Checking content and providing feedback to other writers;
4. Sharing knowledge of how to include, support and further challenge learners with SLCN across curriculum subjects with the team, to write a variety of resources that engage learners and appeal to teachers;
5. Using your knowledge of working with children with SLCN;
6. Producing resources that respond to customer needs and current teaching methodologies;
7. Meeting with other members of the team to discuss and develop new ideas;
8. Creating and hosting Teachmeet CPD presentations for educators and practitioners.
To succeed in the role, you will:
1. Have experience as a Speech and Language Specialist, whole school SaLT Lead or Coordinator and have a thorough understanding of how to support learners with a range of speech, language and communication needs;
2. Be a qualified, experienced and confident practitioner in the delivery of Colourful Semantics and Attention Autism;
3. Be able to prepare and deliver TeachMeet CPD presentations based on speech and language and the resources Twinkl creates;
4. Be a fantastic communicator who thrives when working in a close-knit team;
5. Be prepared to confidently work between different IT platforms, including Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and G Suite;
6. Have a drive for continuous professional development.
In this role, you will learn:
1. How to ideate and create diverse, inclusive, engaging and varied resources for children and teachers right through to publication;
2. How to check content and provide feedback for other writers;
3. How to work in ‘agile’ teams, allowing you to solve problems and change tasks quickly to meet deadlines;
4. How to collaborate with educational professionals based across the UK through our company focus groups and customer feedback requests;
5. How to apply your teaching experience to create new products from ideation stage to publication;
6. How to use Project Tracking software as well as other in-house systems;
7. To work as part of the wider Inclusion team at Twinkl.
You’ll work with:
1. The supportive and experienced Inclusion team.
2. Your own direct Line Manager.
3. Our team of qualified teachers, who currently write, edit and produce content for the Inclusion team.
4. Our amazing in-house design and illustration teams, collaborating daily to produce the beautiful, polished resources that Twinkl are known for.
We're interested in anyone who meets one, or a combination of the following:
1. Has taught, planned or adapted existing curriculum content to support speech and language learners across either a primary or secondary (or both) age range;
2. Has experience in successfully engaging learners with speech and language needs, allowing them to access curriculum content;
3. Has experience as a speech and language specialist, whole school SaLT lead or coordinator and has a thorough understanding of how to support learners with a range of speech, language and communication needs;
4. Has experience working with a range of students who have Speech, Language and Communication Needs;
5. Is trained in Colourful Semantics and shape coding;
6. Is trained and has experience of using Attention Autism within the classroom setting;
7. Is confident in creating and hosting CPD Teachmeet sessions on SALT topics for practitioners who need support and guidance with using speech and language resources with children and young people;
8. Has access to a fast and reliable internet connection of at least 6 MB down and 1 MB upload. We recommend you use speedtest.net to check.
Recruitment Process
