Band 7 Physiotherapist - Cancer Rehabilitation - Inpatients
Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust
We are excited to offer a unique opportunity for a highly skilled and motivated physiotherapist to join our innovative and unique Guy's Cancer Rehabilitation Transition Service, covering a period of maternity leave.
Our cancer rehabilitation service is an integral part of the multidisciplinary team (MDT) providing comprehensive care to patients at all stages of their cancer journey--before, during, and after treatment. The service accepts referrals from the ward and larger cancer therapy team, carrying a small caseload of patients with complex cancer presentations who require an enhanced rehabilitation package while in the acute setting. It aims to improve functional outcomes, quality of life, and patient experience through increased rehabilitation frequency and supportive transfer into the community.
We are looking for an enthusiastic Physiotherapist with a passion for cancer rehabilitation to join our forward-thinking Cancer Physiotherapy service in this rewarding and clinically interesting role.
Main duties of the job
Our team consists of a B7 physiotherapist, B7 Occupational therapist, and Band 4 Therapy Assistant. The role aims to optimise physical function and facilitate rehabilitation alongside ongoing cancer treatments within our inpatient cancer rehabilitation team.
Beyond clinical duties, the successful candidate will assume day-to-day operational management responsibilities for their service and contribute to the broader inpatient Cancer Physiotherapy team at Guy's.
The position also involves supervising and appraising staff, as well as providing undergraduate training. The candidate will play a pivotal role in advancing the development and research agenda for both the local and wider teams, and will take on department-wide responsibilities. Advanced communication skills and expertise in offering rehabilitation and symptom management advice for acute oncological issues will be essential, alongside the promotion of long-term management strategies for cancer-related effects.
Applicants should have experience working at a senior level within the NHS. This role presents an excellent opportunity for a current Band 6 or Band 7 clinician seeking to further develop their clinical and managerial skills, with support from Consultant and Clinical Specialists in Cancer and the wider Rehabilitation Service.
