Technical Assessor - Waste Management
Location: Cardiff, Rumney
Salary: £28,000 - £30,000
Contract Type: Permanent, Full-Time
Working Hours: Monday to Friday, 9:00 am - 5:00 pm
Requirements: Must have a valid driving license and access to own vehicle
Our client is seeking a Technical Assessor to manage the classification of waste materials destined for either internal sites or third-party disposal. You will also oversee materials leaving the site in the form of residues and site-produced products.

Key Responsibilities:
1. Assess waste enquiries by characterizing and classifying waste materials.
2. Manage materials for third-party disposal routes.
3. Provide technical advice, support, and guidance to both internal sites and external clients.
4. Undergo various required training sessions.
5. Assist with sampling and collaborate with third-party labs for testing requirements.
6. Produce reports as needed and assist with regulatory reporting.
7. Support and maintain safety standards across all sites.
8. Liaise with suppliers to meet business requirements.
9. Represent the company professionally and promote its values.
Essential Qualifications & Experience:
1. HNC/HND or higher in Environmental Sciences or Chemistry-related field (open to graduates - a great entry-level opportunity).
2. Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, SharePoint, etc.).
3. Knowledge of WM3, CLAIRE DoW COP, and WRAP QP for Aggregates.
4. Valid driving license and access to own vehicle.
5. Strong understanding of chemistry, particularly for site permitting compliance (must include at least 4 modules with "Chemistry" in the title if related to Biology, Forensics, etc.).
6. Previous roles in hazardous waste management, such as Site Chemist, Process Chemist, or Laboratory Technician.
7. Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with proficiency in Outlook, Word, and Excel.
8. Ability to evaluate waste streams, classify them, and determine disposal costs.
9. Prior experience in direct client interaction is advantageous.
Additional Qualifications (Desirable):
1. WAMITAB COTC
2. IOSH or NEBOSH safety qualifications
3. Experience with job titles such as Reception Chemist, Transfer Station Chemist, Shift Chemist, or Technical Assessor.
