We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated individual to join our rapidly expanding startup in Newcastle, serving leading financial organisations.

Key Responsibilities

3. Have a good understanding of ITIL processes, particularly a structured approach to continuous improvement of the production environment.

5. Collaborate effectively with DevOps, Support, QA, and Development colleagues, avoiding blame when problems arise.
6. Establish strong, honest, and mutually respectful relationships with key clients, visiting their offices as necessary.
7. Be able to learn new technologies and expand your role and skills.
8. Be available on-call once every 4 weeks, overnight/weekend, and only for production issues.
Experience
1. Maintain on-premise and Azure SQL databases, including upgrades, high availability backup administration, monitoring, optimisations of DB Servers, and optimisations of SQL/procedures.
2. Work with Cloud Azure SQL Server, Data Lake, and related cloud data storage technologies.
3. Have strong MS SQL knowledge, enabling you to interrogate data stores and schema, investigate results, and provide solutions to improve performance.
4. Collaborate with developers and support business to enhance the use of SQL Server via better schemas, performant stored procedures/views/functions.
PREFERRED SKILLS
1. Achieve high availability through Always-On and Basic Availability Groups.
2. Backup and restore DB/transaction logs.
3. Utilize Powershell - dbatools or SqlServer modules.
4. Optimize performance.
5. Manage SQL Server Maintenance - Agent Jobs, Monitoring.
6. Configure SQL server.
7. Apply partitioning.
8. Create SQL snapshots.
9. Implement change data capture.
10. Understand SAN arrays - Nimble preferred, PURE or others acceptable.
11. Financial services experience is a bonus but not essential.
The ideal candidate will be based in our Newcastle office 5 days per week and hold first-class education results (minimum 2:1, ideally from Russell Group Universities), along with the right to work in the UK.
