University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust
The Medical unit at Leicester Royal Infirmary Hospital is seeking to recruit a ward clerk for the busy stroke ward.
This post is full time and works alongside a ward clerking team as well as a small stroke team. The successful candidate should have excellent communication skills and a good understanding of basic computer skills. Knowledge of hospital Patient Center / HISS is an advantage; however, training will be given to the right candidate.
Candidates should be enthusiastic, self-motivated, and organised. A caring and compassionate outlook is also essential in dealing with the stressful and demanding situations that can occur within the ESM setting; however, the main role of the ward clerk is to provide support for the medical wards, ensuring we maintain a live bed state.
Main duties of the job
The applicant needs to have computer skills, good communication skills, and experience of working in a team.
You will be the first point of contact when patients and visitors arrive on our Ward and will undertake such duties as maintaining a clean and tidy environment, keeping our patient centre system up to date, including admission transfers and discharges of patients, and taking responsibility for inpatient/outpatient notes.
Additionally, you will be responsible for answering telephone calls and queries from clients, relatives, and members of the multi-disciplinary team, forwarding enquiries to appropriate staff, and helping to ensure the smooth running of the ward by undertaking administrative duties in a timely manner.
About us
Our new strategy, developed with the support and feedback of colleagues, patients, and partners, is our compass for the next seven years (2023-2030).
We have four primary goals:
1. High-quality care for all,
2. Being a great place to work,
3. Partnerships for impact, and
4. Research and education excellence.
We will embed health equality in all we do - taking active steps to reduce the avoidable differences in healthcare that some people face, working in partnership with communities.
This is an exciting moment as we look to the future with clarity on what we already do well and where we need to focus our energies to make an even bigger difference for the people we serve.
Job responsibilities
You will be responsible for covering a busy stroke ward, keeping the ADT's (admissions, discharges, and transfers) up to date, enabling us to maintain a live bed state, completing the black book so all staff know where the patient has gone, answering phone calls on the ward, and liaising with the ward staff.
